Blowin’ Smoke with @zbullsmoke

Aaron HernandezWelcome to my first of a weekly series entitled Blowin’ Smoke where I will be giving my thoughts on the previous week in the NFL, previewing the upcoming week, and throwing in random humor and thoughts.

The first two weeks are in the books. There have been plenty of upsets and blowouts. Fantasy football is the main reason we are here though. How have you all done so far? 2-0 and playoff bound, or 0-2 and in full panic mode selling off your best players? Either way we have a long season ahead of us.Here are some of my takeaways from the first two weeks

Despite injuries to the offensive line, wide receiving corps and overall poor QB play, the Eagles are 2-0. Michael Vick is healthy for the most part, which in week three is a total shock.Vick still can’t read defenses, but for fantasy purposes he hasn’t been terrible. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to defy the odds.

Aaron Hernandez will be out for a month or so with an ankle injury. The Patriots signed Kellen Winslow this week, but I don’t think he is worth a look except for the deepest of fantasy football leagues. I honestly feel that Rob Gronkowski will see the increased targets. I also think they continue to phase out Wes Welker. Even though Tom Brady endorses Uggs, he proved in Week One that he can play through getting a bloody nose, which I think is safe to say more than what Ryan Mathews, from the San Diego chargers, can do.

Just as I had said this preseason Rowdy Roddy White has proven that just because Julio Jones is in town, he will still see a ton of targets and make the most of them. The Falcons rushing has gotten off to a pretty rough start. It is very clear that Michael Turner is running with ankle weights and Jack Daniels. He has obviously been running with them post game as well.

The Titans have looked pretty bad this year. Jake Locker hasn’t lived up to the hype yet, but I still feel better days are ahead for him. Chris Johnson is back to his old tricks again of doing absolutely nothing for fantasy owners. He has blamed everyone but himself so far, but he obviously can’t see the holes the size of Texas that the offensive line has created for him.

Adrian Peterson made an unbelievable comeback from last season’s injury. After the coaching staff said in Week One that he would get limited touches and would be eased back into the offense, he went out and had a great performance. This may in fact be Adrian Peterson.

The Cleveland Browns have been looking bad as well after all the hype built up on the young talent they have acquired over the last two years. The Jury is still out on both Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden, but starting your Week One out like this it can’t be a good sign.

Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals: Vick Will Get Rattled

Michael Vick Chillin with Rapper T.I.

The Eagles QB & Rapper T.I. are looking to bring back the oversized Tee-shirts.  T.I. is football fanatic himself, especially when it comes to his Atlanta Falcons & Michael Vick. Maybe he has some advice for Vick’s problem with throwing interceptions this year.

Thoughts on Eagles After First Two Games

After an interesting preseason, the Eagles first two games looked like a cake walk and then a tough match-up with a team that many believe will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The cake walk didn’t exactly go as planned but the tough game ended up as advertised. In two short weeks, we’ve learned a lot about this team. To begin with, we’ve seen that Michael Vick is still...

Eagles vs. Cardinals Week 3 Preview

Eagles vs. Cardinals Week 3 Preview By SBRForum.com Both the Eagles and Cardinals are feeling good about themselves after posting impressive victories last weekend. Can Philadelphia keep momentum high with a win over Arizona in Week 3? So that’s now two Eagles wins to start the season, albeit two wins that were both decided by a solitary point. A week after escaping with a 17-16...

Eagles' OC says he will open it up against Arizona defense---don't expect conservative reaction ...

You'd logically think that Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg would attempt to limit the turnover possibilities for Michael Vick and the Eagles by calling a more conservative game in the first half against the Cardinals defense on Sunday. Not necessarily going to be the case...On Thursday, in response to a valid question a reporter had about possibly playing more conservatively...

Eagles 2-0 with one-point wins and nine turnovers: Here’s how they do it

The Eagles, to a player, say that if the team stopped having turnovers, they would be a dominant team, following their 24-23 win Sunday. On paper, Michael Vick each week, despite previous turnovers, led the Eagles to game winning drives against Cleveland and Baltimore. To watch the game, however, tells a different story. The Baltimore Ravens were a rough and tumble team and featured...

Know Your Enemy - Philadelphia Eagles vs. Arizona Cardinals

EAGLES vs. CARDINALS (Sun Sept 23 4:05 PM ET) The Cardinals are a surprising 2-0 start and they shocked the Patriots on the road last week. Still, their passing offense and rushing offense does not rank in the top 25 in the league. The Eagles are also 2-0 and they looked much better than their season opener in last week’s win over a solid Ravens’ team. Michael Vick...

2-0? Yes, 2-0. On to Arizona.

We are witnessing the first 2-0 start since 2004, two outstanding defensive displays, and the ablility to win games late. Except for turnovers and penalties, our Philadelphia Eagles gave us reasons for optimism against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. We saw big time use of the tight end Brent Celek, a balanced run and passing attack, sharp passing by Michael Vick, and solid...

Beware Vick, Flacco in Week 3

The first two Thursday night games have been resounding duds. For the second straight week, fantasy owners salivated over the matchups made on paper. Visions of shootouts and huge point totals danced in their heads. In Week 2, we saw Jay Cutler terrorized by Clay Matthews, a game that created several days of spirited debate that had nothing to do with the officials. Week 3 opened...

Eagles Week 2 Recap: The Good, the Bad and the Brutal

AP Photo/Mel Evans Another week, another heart-pounding ending to a Philadelphia Eagles game.  This time it was against a quality opponent, unlike last week. The Eagles beat the Ravens, 24-23, after another game-winning drive directed by Michael Vick. With the Eagles down by 6 points, the offense took over at their own 20-yard line with 4:43 remaining in the game.  Vick drove...

Eagles have been winning ugly

It was ugly but the Philadelphia Eagles got the job done for the second week in a row.  It’s hard to believe they are now 2-0, winning by a combined total of 2 points over the first two weeks of the season.  They have had nine turnovers in their first two games.  That many normally doesn’t translate into wins.  The ugly truth here is that the Eagles know they cannot expect...
