At midseason, the Bengals were 6-2 and had hopes of contending for their second AFC North title in three seasons. After a brutal stretch of four straight division games, however, their playoff hopes now rest on winning a wild-card spot. With a 35-7 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday, the Bengals are 7-5 and in a four-way tie with the Titans, Jets and Raiders for the AFC's second and final wild-card position. Cincinnati has a better conference record than the other three teams. Cincinnati likely needs to go 3-1 or 4-0 to secure a playoff bid. The Bengals should be favored at St. Louis (Dec. 18) and at home against Arizona (Dec. 24), but they figure to be an underdog in the season finale against Baltimore (Jan. 1).
