Any book that commences with the story of Michael Irvin stabbing a teammate over seniority regarding a seat in a barbershop belongs on the Great White Hype Book Club. Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys by Jeff Pearlman is one of those books that makes you pissed the f off once you're done reading it, because you wish it could go on forever.

Pearlman describes a nasty look into "America's Team" of the 1990's--as if he were embedded with the team during their glory years. Somehow, the members of the team...well most of them anyways...were able to shake off long nights filled with coke, weed, strippers, drinks, and a steady stream of groupies to become one of the NFL's greatest dynasties. As I said to my cousin after I finished the page-turner in two days, I carried around this book like it was my dialysis machine.

Here are some of the highlights of this book:

-As a Christmas present, ego-maniac Emmitt Smith gave everyone on the team a copy of his autobiography (on the other hand,Troy Aikman gave out golf clubs and Michael Irvin gave out expensive champagne).

-Jerry Jones hated Jimmy Johnson and wanted to hire his old friend Barry Switzer (former Oklahoma head coach) to coach the Cowboys. Jones never interviewed Switzer. He called him and asked him if he wanted the job. Switzer asked him to call back a few hours later since he was groggy from a colonoscopy.

-Switzer's best friend was a Cowboy's team employee. Their friendship survived the fact that in 1977, Switzer had slept with this dude's wife. The marriage somehow survived this. Oh, and the best man at this guy's wedding was Jimmy Johnson, the predecessor to Switzer.

-Nate Newton reached the point where he was hiding candy bars in his uniform during games. He gets hit on a play...and a Snickers bar flies out. Larry Brown on the sideline says, "Am I seeing things or did a Snickers bar just pop out of Nate?"

The book also details the volatile relations between Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones, the racial tensions that existed between the teammates and management, infidelity, drugs, Deion Sanders, Charles Haley (and his penis which was constantly exposed), the team's infamous "White House" used to house groupies and coke bricks, and how one trade (that sent Hershel Walker for numerous draft picks) turned a 1-15 team in 1989 to capture 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.

This book reads like a Behind The Music, but its tales of debauchery and cast of life-on-the-edge players is a crazy roller coaster that features incredible highs and lows all at 100mph. Buy this f****** book now.
