Ok Browns Fans, The Battle is on! Everyone knows about Brandon Weeden and his cannon arm from last week’s rookie mini camp. Weeden has the physical attributes height and his arm. I would just say this, before the media or The Browns crowns him the starter ,College is College and The NFL is The NFL. Meaning it’s much quicker as everyone knows.  For Example We had a one year wonder in Derek Anderson in 07 he put the ball where it needed it to be and ran the offense in sync and The Browns finished 10 -6 . But the follow year scouting reports caught up to him  and and no clue how to read defenses, well you know the rest of the story. Let’s see how Weeden reacts in live game situations, meaning wait at least until preseason games are through then after, name your starter.Everyone is enamored with Brandon’s arm. How does everyone know he can read defenses in live game situations? Qb’s without real pressure in games can put the ball where it needs to be. I’m not saying he’s going to do hor...

Cleveland Browns switching to white facemasks?

Browns LB Chris Gocong tweeted a picture of T.J. Ward in his new helmet today. The interesting part of the photo to uni-nerds like myself is that the facemask is white. It seems unlikely that the Browns would be making that switch. First off, if they were going to do so, why not unveil that along with the new uniforms? Second, at the recent rookie camp all the players were wearing...

Competition starts in Cleveland pitting Weeden, McCoy

BEREA, Ohio -- Brandon Weeden looked comfortable. In fact, he looked like a starting quarterback in the rookie minicamp played out over Mother's Day weekend, but the job isn't his yet. Phase Two of Weeden's indoctrination began the next day when he, Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace were near each other in the locker room, sitting in the same meeting room and on the practice...

Pat Shurmur Statement on Community Raises Hope and/or Questions

In last Sunday’s PD, Bud Shaw published an otherwise unremarkable Pat Shurmur apologia that included an especially interesting statement from the Browns head coach in explaining why next season would be different from last year’s nightmare: ... far far away from here. Dear god, make me a bird, so I can fly far, far far away from here. Dear god, make me a bird ... “I have...

Cleveland Browns Should Not Trade Colt McCoy

During the past offseason, the Cleveland Browns’ feelings about Colt McCoy changed more quickly than a teenage girl’s feelings about the cute boy sitting two rows away in English class. One day, the Browns’ brain trust fell all over themselves to praise McCoy. Another day, the team openly discussed their failed attempts to trade up in the NFL Draft to select Robert Griffin...

Colt McCoy Through the Lens of Brady Quinn

Browns fans are understandably terrified of a QB controversy. The days of Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn (not to mention Charlie Frye) will do that to you. I’ve already been on record that I think it is a possibility that Colt McCoy might beat out Brandon Weeden, at least initially, because of his experience in the Browns’ offense. Still, despite all the moving parts and an ultimate...

While We’re Waiting…Browns Quarterback Competition, Calling Up LaPorta, Joe Carter Bobbleheads

Plenty, I’m sure: “Personally, having watched both players a number of times, I don’t think that Weeden has the tools to beat out McCoy unless the competition is rigged. The only advantage I see Weeden having over McCoy is height. In saying that, it will be interesting to watch how it unfolds this summer in both camp and the preseason. My money is on McCoy. Any takers?”...

Cleveland Browns Fantasy Football Projections

QB Brandon Weeden (Cleveland) It’s going to be a rough rookie year for Weeden in Cleveland. He’s not a talent like Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Joe Flacco, etc. He struggled under pressure and with his decision making at Oklahoma State, two things that Big 12 opponents also mentioned they noticed about Weeden. He has little to no receiving help. It’s not advisable to have him on...

Recently I was the target of all the venom that Cleveland Browns fans could muster because I said that taking Brandon Weeden at #22 was a terrible pick. Some of that venom was toxic enough to set the Cuyahoga River on fire… again. A few of them made interesting comments, while others proved that Cleveland is entirely too close to the black hole of intelligent thought known as...

Weeden ready for NFL competition

When the Cleveland Browns dramatically retooled their offense in April's NFL Draft, it was a clear sign that the franchise is moving on from the past. The Browns, who ranked near the bottom of the NFL in nearly every offensive category last season, spent two first-round picks on that side of the ball. They traded with the Minnesota Vikings to ensure no other team was able to...

Colt McCoy working harder then ever to win starting job

Gregory Shamus/Getty Images Cleveland Browns quarterback Colts McCoy is not ready to lay down and hand over the starting job to rookie Brandon Weeden.  He recently told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he’s working the hardest he’s ever worked in order to compete. I’m a competitor and I’m working harder than ever,” McCoy wrote in an email to the Plain-Dealer. McCoy has...

Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. The Big Lead ranked NFL owners according to actual positive results on the field. “32. Randy Lerner, Cleveland Browns. Lerner, who took over the new Browns after his father’s...

5 worst starting quarterbacks today

This list was fun to put together. There's a couple of rules I went by when I put this together. I only considered quarterbacks that played last year (no rookies), and I did take experience in the NFL into account. Finally, if I considered people that started last year and had a chance of starting again in 2012. Basically, I was ranking these guys based on the order I would pick...
