One of these days — though not anytime soon — the Packers plan on extending an olive branch toward Brett Favre, who spent 16 seasons solidifying his legacy in Titletown only to have it come down in one fell swoop. Although Favre departed on not-so-great terms, GM Mark Murphy wants to formally retire his number, as most teams do with its iconic players.

The sentiment appears to be one-sided.

In an interview with NFL Network’s Deion Sanders, Favre said he is not particularly interested in a ceremonial sendoff or having his No. 4 hang from the rafters of Lambeau Field.

“I don’t know what the future holds,” Favre said. “People think I’m crazy, but I don’t need to have a day. I don’t need to have a retirement — retire your jersey, all that stuff — to solidify my career.

Favre thinks it will eventually happen, but acknowledged his relationship with the organization is basically non-existent.

“I don’t really have one,” Favre said. “It’ll happen someday. That day will come. I haven’t lost any sleep over it, nor have they.”

It’s obvious that a bit of bad blood remains between the Packers and Favre, a former three-time MVP and Super Bowl champion. The fallout between both sides was well-documented and much-discussed, and his incidences of waffling between retirement certainly didn’t help his image in Green Bay. As with any damaged relationship, more time needs to elapse before all can be forgiven.
