The gift and the curse of being a professional quarterback, is if you get a RING, you immediately have ring protection and it clouds people judgment of you.  If you don’t the critics will always been ready to pounce. For example, Brett Favre went to two Super Bowls and won one, but he had many terrible playoff appearances late in his career, that are mostly swept under the rug. Same with Peyton Manning. Eli Manning could never win another playoff game in his life, but those two rings will get him into the Hall of Fame. It is just the way it works in the NFL. As a quarterback unless you are just exceptional like say Dan Marino, no rings means a lot of blame and criticism. Here is what Favre had to say about Romo and the Cowboys. “It’s the ultimate team sport,” Favre said at an event in Dallas today, via the Dallas Morning News. “I think it’s misleading to say that a quarterback has wins and losses and say he was a part of one playoff victory. I think there are a lot of factors that go into the success of not only Tony Romo but any player. Just what little bit I’ve watched the last couple of years, it seems like they were a little bit in disarray offensively. I thought he did a good job, from what I saw, of managing and making plays. Does that get you in trouble sometimes when you try to do too much? Sure it does. But I think I’d rather have a guy who’s willing to take those chances.” “I like the way he plays,” Favre said. “I think there’s times that he’s made plays or decisions that were bad. But I think based on how the team has played or the way that the game has gone, for the most part, has kind of dictated the way his decision-making has played into it.” Nothing Favre said is incorrect, it just doesn’t matter.  A rational person understands, there are a lot worst quarterbacks out there than Tony Romo, but the fact he plays for the Cowboys, puts even more pressure on him. He simply has to win a Super Bowl to fully be accepted.  He has being paid like a franchise quarterback and franchise quarterbacks are expected to win Super Bowls.  If you cash the check, you have to produce. We will see if this is Romo’s year.
