Found June 03, 2009 on EMQB:
Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will be out of action until the beginning of the 2009 regular season. Brian was not participating in the team’s minicamp this week because of a sore ankle. As it turns out, he has a high ankle sprain. And it apparently needs some work so it’s “prognosis negative” for arguably the Eagles’ best player (remember, he’s also returning from a knee operation this off-season).

  • has not been confirmed yet
  • http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4228976
  • It hasnt been confirmed but its not really news. We all know he cant keep his body a 100% and he wont be doing much in the offseason. This could be a good thing, maybe are young men will prove something with having more playing time. Lets go EAGLES
  • Your kidding, right? Good news? This is not good. You know how long High ankle sprains last. This could shut him down for a lot longer than the Regular season. Lets keep our fingers crossed that he heals fast..
  • Its def not "good news" but I do see and understand guam's point. What he should have said was if anything good can come out of this it will be that Shady/RB#3 can get more reps and get some playing time with the 1's. Maybe prove something that the otherwise wouldnt have gotten the opportunity. This is a scary position to be in the to know that if he's not ready, chances are we will be one injury away from having Booker as our starter. And possibly starting I just can't see Andy starting a rook RB unless Shady is lights out in camp. And I think he will.
  • Yea, I hear ya apollokid...... I believe that training camp means a lot. People can say Westy dosen't need to practice. History shows that you come in cold, you are setting yourself up for another injury...
  • he has never been big on practicing anyway!!
  • This is exactly how I feel. He doesn't usually practice during the season, there is really no difference.
  • This scares me. We need a vet backup
  • Thats why we got McCoy so we be alrigth cause the team going be wide open wit the pass plus he back for the start of the season anyway
  • This scares me. We need a vet backup
  • EJ anyone? i feel dirty saying it, but we all know how westy is with injuries, if this is true, he might have a season like last year. Which was still productive yes, but damn this ruined my day. Fingers crossed!
  • I think the eagles are waiting for the cuts to come around, then they'll sign a backup. Deuce Mac, Edge, maybe one of the broncos running backs that gets cut(they have 6). Wouldn't be funny if they cut Buck and he came back?
  • No, I don't think that would be funny. Especially if you think of all the articles we would be seeing on here!
  • nonono i would love it, i was very sad to see buck go. Open arms if he came back
  • In the short term, the rookies will get a lot of reps but I do agree, a vet like Deuce would be good. Also Weaver is an option at halfback.
  • its time to get a backup vet, westbrook will be good to go once the season starts so its not such of a bad injury at this point.....
  • I'm not so sure about that..
  • Let the excuses begin...lol.
  • and a spy to watch the opponents SB practice.
  • who has to cheat to beat the Dolphins really? were you guys that desperate?
  • About eleven teams last year would have had to cheat to beat them, actually.
  • I don't see why the Eagles would need to go out and pick someone up, unless they aren't sold on Shady McCoy. If McCoy is supposed to be the future replacement, all I do is see this as an awesome learning experience for him until B West is back. We should all be happy the injury happened now and not in the beginning of the season.
  • Im not happy when any Eagles player is hurt at any time... And McCoy is 20 years old, thats alot of pressure to put on a rookie. You cant just go "oops westbrooks done until the regular season, OK McCoy your our man, go out there and play like westy"... Its not going to happen, although the plus is that RB's are suppose to translate easier to the NFL than any other position.
  • not with reid's playbook, im wishing for the best right now
  • According to ESPN.com, it's bone spurs. Much less to worry about than a high ankle sprain.
  • It wouldn't normally worry me, but were playing high powered offenses the first two weeks, and we'll need B-West in those games.
  • I am worried but Shady will come to the rescue
  • If Shady comes in and lights it up the first 2-3 games and westbrook comes back and stinks then I think we will see a change... I want westbrook through this year and next but not if hes on the Injury list every single week.
  • I hope Wstbrook will stay healthy he is such a great player
  • Better know, than the season----he is a dog on the field----no pre-season reg season where it counts-----he will be ready---gives eagles a chance to look at mccoy-completely,and see what he has to offer-----carry the BEAN !!!
  • Im not worried at all this is the same ankle injuried that wasnagging during the reg season with the knee the got drained this off season i guess they were trying to avoid surgery with the ankle any way the ankle is being dealt with we a true fullback in weaver a great OL that can pass and run block and we get to test shady outfor a bit westboogie should b ready for season opener dont panic if anybody can deal with injuries its this team GO EAGLES DEATH TO THE BUMS IN BLUE
  • Westbrook being banged up isn't news, it's a fact of life. He is a competitor and has played at less than 100% many times before. With the improved OL Shady will have an easier transition to the NFL, and can help carry the load. But the Eagles do need some veteran depth. Westbrook is a phenom, but if he has to carry the load himself, he tends to wear down. They need some added depth to keep his legs fresh, and of the injury report and it'll take pressure of Shady if he has to carry the load.
  • im not worried at all because shady will be just fine i have faith in the line and mccoy until westbrook can get back if he is out beyond the first game. Look at what happened to desean jackson last year when our two starting wide outs were out and look at the rookie season he had and mccoy has the same opportunity if westbrook is out beyond the first game.
  • this will give shady enough reps to be ready for the season! i think it's just a ploy to rest westbrook! reid knows he's the heart and soul of the offense!
  • look at the article i just posted, Westbrook is having surgery on Friday
  • You guys should really be a little more concerned about this situation. Reg season is probably best case, and it will take him time to get into playing shape by not only missing camp, but not even being able to walk on the ankle. If it was a bicep or shoulder injury I'd feel better but it isn't. As much as it really blows and we don't want to face it, Westy is 30 now and his injuries and miles are really adding up. I love Shady and have faith but that means we are a bad bruise away from having Booker be our #1.
  • If someone 2 guys don't have great camps, look for Andy to add some vet RB thats probably not even on a team right now and start them. I saw Dorsey Levens @ Gino's last week??????????????
  • McCoy may turn out to be great down the road, but no way will come in here and be a legit backup in this system as a rookie. Let's be real here. It takes at least a year to get this system down as a back because you have to learn two positions, receiver and back. If west isn't right we've got to drop the load on a rookie and booker. Does that not scare the crap out of anyone else? To me that could take us out of contention this year. Now splitting time between McCoy and a proven vet I think is ok but believing an unproven rookie and booker can handle the load sounds like another "Reid" poorly planned situation. IE. Klecko, greg lewis as a return man, etc.
  • his agent says he is getting surgery but id rather have it now than during the season
  • Yes, this it good news. Westbrook will miss some practice time and the pre-season. No big deal.

So the backups and rookies get more touches and more time with the first team.

That ought to improve their learning curve.

I will take Westbrook at 70% and rising coming off of surgery than have the whole season with him at 80% and sinking waiting to have it.
  • I dont know guys, times-a-wasting on Westbrook. I believe he still has another 2-3 good years in him. He's a great player and all, but we wasted too much time to get him a complement. BEWARE!!!!!!! The McCoy Era is coming soon
  • I just hope McCoy will prove to be as valuable as Westbrook. I'm not saying he can't but they are some big shoes to fill.
  • Trust Me. McCoy will live up to the hype. He may not make the impact Westbrook does, but this guy is a playmaker.
  • OK, I'm putting all my trust in what you say. Don't let me down.
  • I'm afraid it may take a while for him to adjust - we need a playmaker now!
  • i agree, i just don`t think it will happen.
  • Shady will have a major impact for the eagles but we also need a proven rb to hold us over until west is fully healthy. sorry but booker wont get it done....
  • from what i have heard he might be back towards the end of the preseason.
  • I totally Agree Yes Westbrook will be back an put up number either similar to last yr a bit more than that but Alot of you guys have forgotten about The Fullback we got thats behind Westbrook, L. Weaver He can Rush the Ball catch the Ball block for players like Mccoy (sadly to say booker) if the worse case scenario happens that West cant play... West dont need practice Mcnabb and Westbrook know each other like the back of there hands Will he be ready by game day yeah Come on game day is late as heck this yr the more Rest on the Ankle the Quicker the Heal even for safe measure we sit him out of the Panthers Game we still will be fine.. Yes we do Need Westbrook an Rod Woodson and Baldinger were discussing this on NFL Network on NFL.com an Baldinger has a good point that seasons past Westbrook was the Offense beside Mcnabb an thats it, Westbrook is still the Offense but with the Added Weapons meaning (hint, hint Relief for Westbrook) he dont have to worry.... He will be fine an will produce worse case scenario is to pick up a vet.. but we will be fine an Shady will produce Westbrook dont got a problem with that just like Kevin Curtis an Reggie Got hurt gave Desean That break Shady gets that break an so much more....
