Cleveland Browns left guard Eric Steinbach underwent back surgery to repair a "disk issue" and was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.
Steinbach has been a durable player in his last four seasons with Cleveland, playing in all 16 games three times.
The 31-year-old Steinbach, who plays alongside Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas, was a 2003 second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Rookie Jason Pinkston may take over at guard, although Cleveland coach Pat Shurmur expressed that the team will examine its options.
