A spokesman for the Cleveland Browns says the team is not for sale, refuting a report the NFL franchise might be on the market. Neal Gulkis, the team's vice president of media relations, said Thursday that ''the Browns are not for sale.'' Gulkis was responding to a report by Philadelphia radio personality Howard Eskin, who posted on his Twitter page that former Eagles president Joe Banner is putting together a group to buy the Buffalo Bills, and that the Browns and St. Louis Rams may also be for sale. The Browns have been owned by the Lerner family since 1999. Randy Lerner, who also owns the Aston Villa soccer club in England, inherited the Browns in 2002 following the death of his father, Al. Lerner was traveling and did not immediately respond to emails and phone calls seeking comment.

Is Montario Hardesty Tom Heckert’s Big Miss?

Montario Hardesty is slowly seeing his name etched into the side of the seemingly mile-long stretch of stone. It’s a slab rife with names of second-round draft selections who merely never seemed to get it together and excel inCleveland. The reasons are boundless, but in this instance more than any, Hardesty’s fate is in his own hands. Or knees. Or calf. Chaun Thompson was clearly...

Joe Thomas: Mitchell Schwartz Has Better Technique Than I Did

For a guy coming in as a rookie, [Mitchell Schwartz] has great technique. He’s a technician. I think he’s got better technique than I did when I was a rookie. [...] He’s very impressive. His level of detail, study-wise, is also impressive. I don’t think he’s had a mental error yet. As a rookie, that’s impressive, to be running with the ‘Ones.’ - Cleveland Browns...

Doerschuk: Hardesty still has “hitch” in his step

Drafting Trent Richardson isn’t necessarily a rebuke of Montario Hardesty as a player. Trent Richardson is highly enough touted that even if Montario Hardesty had lived up to his potential and not been hurt the Browns might have made a case that he was worth drafting as the best player available. All that being said, if media concerns about Hardesty are valid, then the Browns really...

Brandon Weeden proving to be the starting quarterback of the Browns

When Brandon Weeden was selected with the 22nd pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns knew they were obtaining a mature quarterback from Oklahoma State who already dealt with the likes of Justin Blackmon and had success doing so. The fourth quarterback taken in the draft is a 28-year-old rookie but his age

NFL to Allow Fujita et al to Appeal Bounty-based Suspension

Cleveland Browns linebacker Scott Fujita and other players involved in the ongoing New Orleans Saints’ bounty program investigation will get their chance to appeal suspensions handed down by the NFL. Per reports, the league has set a June 18 date for Fujita, along with linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive ends Anthony Hargrove and Will Smith, to state their case in regard to...

Healthy Massaquoi eager to help Browns

Mohamed Massaquoi is healthy and ready to catch passes for the Cleveland Browns. That's good news for the Browns, because the wide receiver was somewhat limited the past two seasons after suffering concussions. Massaquoi also missed most of training camp last summer with a foot injury and says at mini-camp Wednesday his main concern this year is staying healthy. That would...

Browns could name Brandon Weeden starter before Training Camp

Brandon Weeden was a 1st round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft, but, as the Browns are doing with all of their rookies, they’re making Weeden earn the starting job from incumbent Colt McCoy. However, Weeden is impressing in OTAs and may not have to wait much longer to be named the starter. Head Coach Pat Shurmur said today that he’d like to name starters ...

Shurmur energized as minicamp concludes

BEREA -- Pat Shurmurs demeanor never really allows him to have a skip in his step, but if anyone seems energized by this offseason of Cleveland Browns work, its the head coach. Its understandable.A year ago, Shurmur was locked in his office (well, not literally locked) and prohibited from talking to players. The league had locked out the players, and Shurmur could do nothing to get...

Browns, Rams say they’re not for sale

Earlier today there was a report that both the Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Ram are for sale. We already have confirmation that both teams are not up for sale. Browns Spokesman Neal Gulkis told Mary Kay-Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that “the Cleveland Browns are not for sale.” People within the Rams organization laughed off the idea that their team is for sale, according...

In a Friday morning interview with long-time sports talkshow host Dan Patrick, Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy said that he has no recollection the infamous concussion-inducing hit by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison. “I don’t remember the hit but I’ve seen it several times,” McCoy said. “I know the things that happened up to that point but from the...
