The Cleveland Browns added veteran quarterback Jason Campbell on Tuesday evening. Campbell has started 71 games during his NFL career and is only two years older then Brandon Weeden who was the Browns first round pick last year. Last season Campbell made one start for the Chicago Bears. In that game he was victimized by the San Francisco 49ers thanks in part to a porous Bears offensive line. Mary Kay Cabot  of the Plain Dealer noted a Brown’s team source which said that Campbell’s contract “is strong” and that he would get a chance to compete for the starting gig. “I just thought it is a good opportunity, and it’s a young football team that’s growing and ready to compete,” Campbell told the Chicago Sun-Times. “I like the things that they are doing here in trying to turn things around and get going in the right direction.” The Browns are planning to implement a down field passing attack under new offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Campbell, much like Weeden, fits the Browns idea of a big armed quarterback. Campbell has made his way around the NFL but in his eight year career has 76 touchdowns, 52 interceptions and a 82.5 quarterback rating. In his first season Brandon Weeden threw for 3,385 yards but threw 14 touchdowns against 17 interceptions.

Jason Campbell to Cleveland makes some sense

The Browns signed Jason Campbell to a two-year deal yesterday to “add to the pile” 1 at the quarterback position. Is this more like Jake Delhomme or Seneca Wallace? The cost of taking a chance on Jason Campbell is now known. Many outlets have reported that the Browns’ two-year deal with Campbell is worth $3.75 million. According to Sportrac, the deal is for $1.5 million in 2013 and $2.25 million in 2014. Far be it for me to call millions of dollars a “cheap deal,” but that’s exactly what this is. Campbell’s previous deal with the Chicago...

Campbell gets another chance in Cleveland

The Browns never stop surprising. Late Tuesday night, the team announced it had signed quarterback Jason Campbell to a two-year contract. How this fits in the scheme of no stop-gaps is hard to figure, but it does give the team a guy whos been in the league seven years to compete at quarterback. Which is something. Then again, if Brandon Weeden doesnt win the starting quarterback...

18 Quarterbacks have started for the Browns since 1999, Will Campbell be the 19th? Where will Colt McCoy be when the season starts?

The Cleveland Browns just threw another quarterback into the mix. This time they signed a veteran who mainly played a back-up role for much of his career. The fans are already wondering if the Browns will part ways with Colt McCoy. Some thing the team would like to trade Weeden.
