With the Bills spending the week in Arizona, the team’s coaches are trying to figure out how to improve on defense. Over the last two games, the Bills have been outscored 97-31. To say the Bills defense has been awful is an understatement. Over the last two weeks, it looks as though the Bills defense will not allow them to win another game.
Nix thinks the Buffalo defense isn’t showing enough urgency and he thinks that needs to change.
“And that could be on any segment or as far as any part of our group. But to play defense you’ve gotta play fast and you’ve got to play reckless and you’ve got to play aggressive,” Nix said, via Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News. “For some reason, especially in the second half of both games, we didn’t do that. We were a step slow reacting. We missed tackles. We didn’t get off blocks. When you miss tackles, usually it’s one of two things, it’s talent or lack of effort. We’ve seen these guys do it before so I think they can. We gotta get that urgency back somehow.”
I doubt the Bills can just turn on a switch and start playing well on defense. If the Bills want to become the top defense they believed they were going to become in the off-season, the organization will have to make a major change. Whether that means firing defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt or hope he changes the way he coaches will have to be seen.
If the Bills expect to win anymore games this season, they will have to do something and soon.
