With the Bills spending the week in Arizona, the team’s coaches are trying to figure out how to improve on defense. Over the last two games, the Bills have been outscored 97-31. To say the Bills defense has been awful is an understatement. Over the last two weeks, it looks as though the Bills defense will not allow them to win another game.
Nix thinks the Buffalo defense isn’t showing enough urgency and he thinks that needs to change.
“And that could be on any segment or as far as any part of our group. But to play defense you’ve gotta play fast and you’ve got to play reckless and you’ve got to play aggressive,” Nix said, via Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News. “For some reason, especially in the second half of both games, we didn’t do that. We were a step slow reacting. We missed tackles. We didn’t get off blocks. When you miss tackles, usually it’s one of two things, it’s talent or lack of effort. We’ve seen these guys do it before so I think they can. We gotta get that urgency back somehow.”
I doubt the Bills can just turn on a switch and start playing well on defense. If the Bills want to become the top defense they believed they were going to become in the off-season, the organization will have to make a major change. Whether that means firing defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt or hope he changes the way he coaches will have to be seen.
If the Bills expect to win anymore games this season, they will have to do something and soon.

Bills GM Nix criticizes defense's lack of urgency

Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix is puzzled and unhappy by his high-priced defense's meltdowns, and criticized the entire unit for playing with a lack of urgency. ''What I see is not enough intensity and urgency,'' Nix said Tuesday during a telephone conference call with reporters. ''When you miss tackles, usually it's one of two things: It...

Bills GM Nix rips defense after loss

Buddy Nix places the blame for the Buffalo Bills' defensive meltdowns on an overall lack of urgency and not solely on high-priced defensive end Mario Williams. And the Bills general manager maintained his confidence in coach Chan Gailey's ability to turn around a team suddenly facing an early season crisis. Otherwise, Nix finds himself as frustrated and ''puzzled...

Bills GM Nix: DE Anderson to miss significant time

Buffalo Bills defensive end Mark Anderson is out indefinitely after hurting his left knee in what becomes the latest blow for a porous defense. General manager Buddy Nix told the team's website Wednesday that the injury is not season-ending, but Anderson will miss significant time. Nix said Anderson is visiting specialist James Andrews to determine the severity of the injury...

What the Buffalo Bills must do about the Ryan Fitzpatrick question

Ryan Fitzpatrick might just be the easiest man to root for in the NFL today. You probably know the story by now: drafted in the 7th round out of Harvard, a career backup turned franchise savior living an NFL fairytale dream. His long, lumberjack beard can be found on any regular guy in the stands at Ralph Wilson Stadium. He is not pretty. Don’t hold your breath on the GQ cover...

Bills' Fitzpatrick stays poised amid turmoil

TEMPE, Ariz. If Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick seems unusually calm in the wake of his teams disastrous performances the past two weeks, well, thats because he is. Hes always been that way, said Mike Reardon, Fitzpatricks coach at Gilbert Highland High School. Initially, I didnt know how to take him. I thought he was a teenager just shutting me off, but he wasnt at...

We should know by tonight or first thing in the morning how long it’ll be, but we do know that he’s...

Nigel Bradham is expected to replace Arthur Moats in Buffalo

The Bills are considering replacing SLB Arthur Moats with rookie LB Nigel Bradham. Moats is a pass rusher and not a 4-3 outside linebacker. First-year Defensive Coordinator Dave Wannstedt has been unable to figure out a way to stop anybody this year. It’s been a common theme throughout Buffalo’s 2012 defense. Bradham earned the top reserve linebacker position in camp and has...

Buffalo Bills: Woes Continue as They Suffer Another Massive Loss

“Obviously, there’s something I’m not doing correctly with this football team in the second half.”The above words may have been spoken by Buffalo coach Chan Gailey, but they apply across the board for the Bills right now as they come off their 45-3 beating by the 49ers.When Buffalo went shopping for defense after such a poor showing in 2011, what they came up with was looked...

After ugly defeat, Bills insist they didn't quit

If there's a more deplorable word to be uttered in a professional locker room than "quit," good luck finding it. No athlete ever wants to give the impression that he quit in a game, and the Buffalo Bills were adamant that they did no such thing Sunday in their 45-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but it was certainly hard to buy into their proclamations. "...

BUFFALO BILLS DE MARK ANDERSON OUT INDEFINITELY WITH KNEE INJURY - The exact time frame is still to be determined for Bills defensive end Mark Anderson, after he suffered a knee injury in last Sunday’s game at San Francisco, but according to Bills GM Buddy Nix he’s going to be out a while. “Well he’s going to miss significant time,” Bills GM Buddy Nix told Buffalobills...

Stevie Johnson goes Gangnam Style, learns dance moves

We all know that Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson can catch touchdown passes but did you know he's down, "Gangnam Style?"Courtesy from our friends over at Network of Champions as part of a new series called "Street Games", Stevie learns the dance from a contestant and shows off his moves to some other folks on the street.I think Psy would have been proud:

Field Goals - Questions to be answered

Things certainly got ugly in a hurry for the Bills. Shortly after dismantling the Browns, some were wondering where the Bills could end up on the other side of their showdowns with New England and San Francisco. Well, they came out 2-3, like many thought in the preseason. But the Bills didn’t end up 2-3 in the manner that most expected. A pair of lopsided losses has all...
