Mississippi State's game against Virginia was suspended in the middle of the seventh inning by lightning and heavy rain. The Bulldogs were leading 5-3 and coming to bat six outs from a sweep and their first College World Series berth since 2007 when the rain came at 10:02 p.m. The umpires waited just over an hour before deciding to suspend the game. The game will resume at 4 p.m., the original scheduled time for a possible Game 3 at Virginia's Davenport Field. A victory would finish off a second straight impressive victory for Mississippi State against the nation's No. 6 seed, and sent them on to Omaha, Neb., as one of eight teams remaining. Adam Frazier was again key to the Bulldogs success. The leadoff man, who had six hits in Saturday's opener with three runs batted in, had two RBI singles and Wes Rea added a two-run home run while Chad Girodo was dazzling in 4 2-3 innings of relief for the Bulldogs. The left-hander allowed a two-run single by Nate Irving in the sixth, but otherwise struck out 10 and stranded seven baserunners. Virginia again made several miscues that hurt its cause, committing two fielding errors and failing to come up with big hits. Brandon Downes homered leading off the second to give the Cavaliers an early lead, but they didn't score again until Irving's line smash that went off the glove oif Bulldogs third baseman Alex Detz as two runs scored, pulling the Cavaliers within 5-3. Girodo then struck out Mike Papi, a .390 hitter, for the third time to end the threat.
