Fox Sports:
Melvin Bullitt's wait is finally over. He is the Colts' starting safety.
It's not that the former undrafted free agent hasn't had chances. He's started 24 games over the past three years and played a key role in the Colts' Super Bowl run two years ago.
It's just that he no longer has to answer any additional questions about playing behind 2007 NFL defensive player of the year Bob Sanders.
Bullitt became the official starter when Indy released the oft-injured Sanders in February, then re-signed Bullitt to a three-year contract just before training camp opened at Anderson University. Sanders is now playing in San Diego.
The Colts believe Bullitt, who missed the last 12 games in 2010 with a right shoulder injury, is ready for the starting gig.
