Cam is back on campus.
Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn tweeted Tuesday that Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has returned to his alma mater to finish his degree.
Newton prematurely left Auburn in 2010, when he became Carolina's No. 1 overall draft pick.
Kirk Sampson, who's a part of the university's athletic department, told WSFA 12 News that Newton is working toward a degree in sociology. There's no fanfare or interviews (or photobombing) taking place; Newton is just "focusing on being a student."
It's encouraging to see someone like Newton, often criticized for immature behavior, spending his downtime productively. Perhaps the light bulb is flicking on for the 23-year-old.
