Cam Newton learned the hard way Thursday night that even near the end of a blowout win, you have to keep your head on a swivel.
With Newton’s Panthers up big on the Buccaneers late in the fourth quarter and Raymond James Stadium nearly empty, the end zone cannon (similar to the muskets shot off at Patriots games) went off, scaring the bejesus out of the quarterback.
Luckily, the television cameras were able to capture Newton’s reaction and the one of NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci, who nearly jumped out of his shoes when the blast went off directly below him.

After defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton's post-game interview with NFL Network got weird in a hurry.
Thursday is Cam Newton’s night. It’s his time to put a show on. He’s without the pressure of a home crowd and can rally his teammates on the road, as the 3-3 Carolina Panthers visit the winless and troubled Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game kicks off at 8:25 p.m. ET on the NFL Network.
Newton has become the forgotten man among the NFL’s elite athletic quarterbacks. Thursday...
The Panthers easily dispatched of the pitiful Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football, driving Greg Schiano into a further state of paranoia and putting the Panthers above .500. Carolina QB Cam Newton stopped by the Thursday Night Football set after the game for an interview and things got... weird.
The first half of the interview is quite normal, but once Deion Sanders makes...
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Cam Newton is playing some of the best football of his career, and the surging Carolina Panthers are back over .500 for the first time in five years.
An efficient Newton threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score Thursday night to pace a 31-13 victory over the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Panthers (4-3) won for the fourth time in five games following...
The Bucs aren’t the most menacing team on the gridiron so at least the fans can take some pleasure in knowing that something about their team is scary to opponents and commentators alike. Deadspin caught video of both Cam Newton and Steve Mariucci when they forgot that the Bucs fire off a cannon every time they score at home. At least Newton and Mariucci didn’t have to worry...
TAMPA, Fla. — In a Thursday Night Football battle of two NFC South teams looking to turn face on their franchise, one continued to improve while the other continued their downward spiral. Behind the efficient play of quarterback Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers knocked off the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-13. It was Newton’s night […]
From an 0-2 start to back over .500 for the first time in five years. Cam Newton and the surging Carolina Panthers are gaining confidence with each victory.
''At no point did I ever doubt this group of guys,'' coach Ron Rivera said Thursday night. ''Maybe because I'm an optimist, but I really did believe that it was just a matter of time.''
It's been a long time since the Carolina Panthers have been relevant in the NFL. The 2003 Super Bowl is a long time ago. Since than they have managed to get to the post season just twice, the last time coming in 2008. To add insult to injury the team has not even had a record above .500 since than.
That is, until now.
Thursday night's game...

Football is back to being fun for CAM NEWTON and his Carolina Panthers after Thursday night’s 31-13 shellacking of the reeling Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Newton, whose toothy smile could easily pass for a Pepsodent ad, played spectacular completing 23 of 32 passes for 221 yards with 2 TDs. Newton even ran for a score as the Panthers (4-3) won for the third consecutive time after an...
It may not be a storybook matchup, but with one of the most athletic quarterbacks in NFL history determined to guide his overachieving band of Carolina Panthers against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad too busy trying to desperately stave off the ill effects of an MRSA outbreak to do anything else, it may well be the next best thing. Are there NFL odds for weirdest Thursday Night Football...
Cam Newton reaction to the Bucaneers’ cannon going off might be my new favorite GIF. Keep doing your thing, Super Man.
Steve Mariucci also got a bit spooked.

This is the biggest game the Panthers have played since the 2008 season, where they bowed out to the Cardinals in the NFC Divisional Round.
Sitting at 3-3, a win over the Buccaneers would place them over the .500 threshold for the first time in over four seasons. For the most part, this franchise has been devoid of national press for the last couple of years, but not this week. Websites...

The midpoint of the season brings the Panthers to the pirates cove that is Raymond James Stadium. This Carolina team is playing well right now and they seem to be hitting their stride. Tampa Bay on the other hand is still win less. These two teams are seemingly headed in different directions, but as with any rivalry, this game could be surprising. With that being said, here is this...
