Following is a guest article from Turron Davenport of Press Coverage Sports
As the quarterback of the Colts, Jim Harbaugh led his team to come-from-behind wins over the Chiefs and Chargers in the 1995–96 NFL playoffs along with a near upset over the No. 2 AFC seed Steelers. This earned him the nickname “Captain Comeback.” In my opinion, Harbaugh’s most brilliant comeback was last year. He took a team that was 5 – 10 in 2010 and turned them around to a 13-3 record. He altered the very culture that existed at 4949 Centennial Blvd in Santa Clara. His biggest impact has been how he has restarted Alex Smith’s career. Judging from what we’ve seen so far, 2011 was no fluke. Just how has this former QB turned Head Coach been able to make his mark?
The number one thing Harbaugh has done is simplify things for Alex Smith. No longer do the 49ers employ the predicable and elementary offense that was used by Jimmy Raye. Alex Smith is now able to be in an offense that has a rhythm. He is able to...
BEST OF MAXIM
The 49ers are 16-4 under Jim Harbaugh and 15-4 against the spread. That includes 6-3 on the road. These trends point to 49ers domination in Minnesota.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Through the ups and downs of a tumultuous seven seasons, Alex Smith is still in San Francisco after being the top overall draft pick by the team in 2005 and is now thriving as the starting quarterback for the 49ers.It's never been easy on Smith, despite the lofty draft status and that he has survived into his eighth season leading San Francisco is a testament...
Before the opening kickoff Sunday night at Candlestick Park, head coaches Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz met on the gridiron for first time since 49ers' (2-0) 25-19 comeback win in Motor City over the Lions' (1-1) week six last season. There was no cheek-kiss, no high-five, not even a fist-bump between the two. That was the plan. It was a cordial, light-hearted handshake...
49ers’ Alex Smith Warned To Not Wear San Francisco Giants Hat -
San Francisco 49ers QB was threatened with a $15,000 fine from the NFL if he continues to wear a San Francisco Giants cap to postgame interviews as he did often last season. The league considers non-NFL items to be non-sponsored gear, and players can’t appear wearing those items 90 minutes before or after games....
SOLIDARITY IN SAN FRAN
After the NFL threatened to fine 49ers QB Alex Smith for wearing a Giants cap, Giants skipper Bruce Bochy wore a 49ers hat in a gesture of support.
Last week: 13 (+4)
I still don’t think this team is much of a Super Bowl threat because eventually the turnover differentials will…blah blah blah regression I’m done repeating myself. Let’s focus on something positive, namely this amazing defense. This was Jim Harbaugh’s first full offseason with this team and many people expected an improved offense because...
A few things have become clear after two weeks of action. The Saints, Bengals, Titans and Redskins (added to the list after losing Brian Orakpo to IR) can't stop anybody and should be picked on by fantasy owners all year. The Chiefs defense appears to be in a similar boat, allowing a league-high 75 points (tied) through two games, but that could be a mirage as the Chiefs are...
Alex Smith is a staunch supporter of the San Francisco Giants. Since the middle of last season, the 49ers quarterback has sported the team's cap during postgame news conferences as a good luck charm. But the National Football League put the kibosh on Smith's superstition moving forward. Fortunately for the quarterback -- whose team is currently 2-0 -- Giants manager Bruce...
Bruce Bochy made his own statement in support of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.
The Giants manager wore a red 49ers cap in the dugout before the series finale against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, a day after Smith said he'd been fined $15,000 last season by the NFL for sporting a Giants hat after games - though the fine was later dropped.
49ERS vs. VIKINGS (Sun Sept 23 1 PM ET)
The 49ers are off to a 2-0 start and many are saying they have the best team in the league. Alex Smith is playing well with his new weapons and San Francisco ha the leagues 3rd best rushing offense.
On top of that they pass defense has been decent and their run defense is stellar just like last season.
The Vikings lost to the...
In support of Alex Smith’s lucky hat, Giants Manager Bruce Bochy wore a 49ers hat to his interviews today. And I think that’s just alright. Here is what Bochy had to say about it:
“Alex supported us, so I’m going to support him,” Bochy said, according to the San Jose Mercury News. “They’re a great club and I’m honored to wear it.”
This one’s for you, Bruce.
