NFL Injury Report:
Cardinals’ first round draft pick Jonathan Cooper suffered a broken leg in
Saturday’s preseason game against the San Diego Chargers, according to CBS Sports' Will Brinson. Cooper was drafted with the no. 7 overall pick in the
2013 NFL Draft as an interior offensive lineman out of the University of North
Carolina. He was expected to start at right guard for Arizona.
The injury reportedly
happened just as Cooper was exploding into the second-level to make a block after
pulling to his right, making his injury even more disappointing for Cardinals’
fans as they were just getting a glimpse of his overall potential. There is
currently no timetable for his return, though Cooper was reportedly saying after
the game that he hopes to return at some point this season.
projected to start immediately for a sketchy Cardinals’ offensive line that has
struggled to keep quarterbacks upright in recent years. His rare blend of size
and athleticism had him touted as being a potential Rookie of the Year
candidate this season as he was expected to improve the run game as well as solidifying
the Cardinals’ pass protection. Unfortunately, he will now spend the majority
of 2013 on the sideline.

Ryan Mathews is off and running this preseason, and Jonathan Cooper's season could be over before it really began.
