Troy Niklas, the Cardinals' second-round draft pick, played tight end at Notre Dame for just two seasons. But rather than view that as a negative, he thinks his inexperience might benefit him.
"I haven't developed a lot of bad tendencies," Niklas said on Tuesday.
The Cardinals hope that Niklas becomes the elite all-around tight end the team has lacked for most of its time in Arizona. At 6-feet-6-inches and 270 pounds, Niklas should be a good blocker. And he's a good enough athlete to be a threat as a receiver.
"I don't mind blocking at all," he said. "I like physical contact. It's always funny when you get a good block on a D-end (defensive end) and he's sitting there like, 'Man, this tight end is owning me.'"
