Carolina Panthers (0-1) at Buffalo Bills (0-1) The Panthers were my biggest sleeper coming into the season. In 2012, The Panthers won 6 of their final 9 games to finish 7-9. Among those 6 wins were victories over division winners Washington and Atlanta, as well as a victory in New Orleans against the Saints. Newton was noticeably better in the 2nd half of the season, completing 58.4% of his passes for an average of 7.9 YPA, 13 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions, all while rushing for 394 yards and 4 touchdowns. That was opposed to 57.0% completion, 8.1 YPA, 6 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions with 347 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in the 1st half of the season. Heading into his 3rd season in the league, it’s very possible he’s turned a corner, which would be a very good thing for this team. In their final 8 games, they averaged 26.0 points per game, which would have been tied for 8th in the NFL last season. That’s no fluke, as they ranked 5th in the NFL scoring 25.4 points per game in 2...

Cam Newton is our Week 2 start of the week

Cam Newton vs. Buffalo - After a disappointing preseason the Carolina Panthers mustered just seven points in their opener at home last week. It is hard to get behind Mike Shula’s offense and while we’re just one week in, those who paid a high price for Cam Newton on draft day are starting to sweat it a bit. This week their fears will be erased. While the stat line was ugly,...

Panthers’ linebacker Chase Blackburn likely to get more action on defense

Chase Blackburn enjoyed the best year of his nine-year career last season with the Giants. Sunday against Seattle a healthy Blackburn didn’t see a defensive snap. The Carolina Panthers have one of the best linebacking corps in the NFL in Thomas Davis Luke Kuechly and Jon Beason but the Panthers are hoping to get Blackburn more involved in live-action snaps moving forward. Beason...

Carolina Panthers Week 2 Injury Report: Kenjon Barner, James Dockery OUT

The Carolina Panthers suffered a devastating 12-7 loss in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.  Not only did the Panthers lose the game but they also lost starting right guard Garry Williams for the season with a torn ACL.  Williams' injury led to the Panthers moving Travelle Wharton over to the RG position and recently activated left guard Amini Silatolu will move in to...

Marrone Looking for First Win, Tasker Says He’s Changed Buffalo’s Culture

Doug Marrone’s first few days of training camp were not the best foot forward. In early August he got incredibly defensive when Buffalo media questioned why star defensive end Mario Williams had been missing for three days without explanation. Marrone even invoked FERPA regulations for not being more forthcoming. Yeah… about that. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act...

Bills throwbacks jerseys need a new design

The other day the Buffalo Bills announced they would be wearing their throwback uniforms for the game this week versus the Panthers. We have all seen the throwback helmets that OJ wore back in the day. The standing Buffalo Helmets are awesome, but instead of wearing the old school uni the Bills get these jerseys. […]

Game Planning for the Panthers

The Panthers went 7-9 last season and have gone 4-1 in their last five games. The Panthers have the potential to make the next step in their progression from an annual loser to a playoff contender, but had trouble moving the ball last week against the Seahawks. This week, they come into Ralph Wilson Stadium and even their record at 1-1. Here are some ways the Bills can prevent that...

Catcalls: “Multiple defensive fronts” put Buffalo Bills in position to contend

The Carolina Panthers (0-1) visit Ralph Wilson Stadium this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET to face off with the Buffalo Bills (0-1). This week I sat down with Matt Warren of BuffaloRumblings.com. My editorial comments are in italics. WCS: What is your take on the poor performance by running back C.J. Spiller last week against the […]The post Catcalls: “Multiple defensive fronts” put...

Film Review: Manuel's impressive debut

BY SEAN DONOVANDespite the fact that they lost, the Buffalo Bills were counted among the teams that pleasantly surprised Week 1. They stood toe-to-toe with divisional juggernaut New England, carrying a lead late in the fourth quarter before losing on a field goal in the closing seconds. The Bills got resilient performances on both sides of the ball, but perhaps the most impressive...

Week 1 Pass Defense Review

*I’m going to run a weekly post on the Bills’ passing defense each week. I will chart all of the passing plays against the Bills this season and report what I find. These are my findings and may not match exactly with other totals (such as PFF), but the discrepancies can be a result of me not double counting QB pressures (I’m only counting the first defender there) and also...

Four Point Stance: Panthers at Bills

BY DAN BEGNOCHEAfter a disappointing result in a highly-anticipated home opener, the Buffalo Bills look to turn things around before taking on another divisional opponent on the road. To do that, however, they're going to have to get through a Carolina Panthers team looking to make up for a slow start of their own.Rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel had a solid outing in his first...

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks: Three Bold Predictions

No. 1 Someone Not Named Anquan Boldin Will Have A Big Day For The 49ers.While the Seahawks had to deal with arguably one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league in Cam Newton last week, it wasn’t a very tall test considering Newton’s lack of options to throw to. The Seattle defense kept Newton at a career low 119 passing yards. The test will be more difficult this week...
