Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is proud of Tyron Smith. Recruited by Carroll to play for Southern Cal, Smith started 12 games at right tackle for the Trojans in 2009, which was Carroll’s last year at the school. The Cowboys selected Smith ninth overall in April. Although he’s coming off a shaky outing in Philadelphia, Smith hasn’t disappointed even though he’s committed three false starts and allowed 5.5 sacks, according to STATS, Inc. “He looks good,” Carroll told the Dallas media in a conference call. “He looks like he is understanding the system. He has had a lot of dominant blocks. He’s always been athletically, extraordinarily unique. “I think it was a great pick for them. I’m really happy to see him having success right away and get going. There is no reason he shouldn’t because he is so physically gifted, but he seems to have matured and they are doing a great job of coaching him up. He is a big factor.”

Fire Pete Carroll? No Way!

This morning, “the Mitch in the Morning” show on KJR crossed the line from being annoying to downright stupid. Mitch has always struggled with his grip on reality, but today’s rant was just stupid, even for him. How he can claim that Pete Carroll should be fired today, and not have every single person listening to him on their radio automatically change the station, is simply...

Seattle Seahawks blogger Brett B tells us sometimes a coach makes a decision that leaves you shaking your head. In the case of Seattle Seahawks HC Pete Carroll it's almost a weekly head-scratch! For starters why did you name Tarvaris Jackson the starting QB before the first preseason football game?

Quick hitters from Pete

Pete Carroll just finished his press conference. He said Tarvaris Jackson will get the majority of quarterback snaps with the starters this week, although he will still be listed on the injury report. “He feels the best he’s felt, but he’s still not well,” he said. In other injury news, Cameron Morrah will not practice today with a sore knee, and Mike Williams (hamstring...

Morning links: Is Jackson the long-term answer at QB?

Is Tarvaris Jackson the quarterback of the future? That’s the question I posed to Seattle head coach Pete Carroll this week. And of course, Carroll had his quarterback’s back, saying he believed that Jackson could be the quarterback that could lead Seattle long term. “I’m looking at it that way, yeah,” Carroll said. “I think I’m probably more appreciative than (reporters...

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (strained pectoral muscle) will be a game-time decision. Jackson fully participated during today’s walk-through practice after being a limited participant on Thursday. Jackson is listed as probable on the team’s injury report. “He’s ready to play at this point,” Carroll said about Jackson...
