Carson Wentz: Comeback win vs. Giants a 'sigh of relief'

It seemed like the New York Giants would be getting their first win over the Philadelphia Eagles for the first time since 2016 on Thursday night, but Doug Pederson's squad roared back late in the game for a 22-21 win at Lincoln Financial Field.

After struggling for a majority of the game, Carson Wentz led a pair of touchdown drives in the fourth quarter. His 18-yard touchdown pass to Boston Scott with 40 seconds remaining might have been the most impressive play of the night.

In his postgame comments, Wentz revealed he couldn't believe the team pulled off the win, adding that Scott's touchdown was an exciting moment.

"I was pretty surprised we pulled it off. When I threw it, I thought it was a little high, but he plays bigger than he is," Wentz said of Scott, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. "Obviously, there are a lot of emotions there. It was kind of a big, exciting moment but a big kind of a sigh of relief because we know we left a lot of plays out there. But the way we battled and found a way at the end of the game was huge for us."

Wentz finished 25-of-43 for 359 yards and three touchdowns (one rushing) against one interception. Philadelphia now owns a 2-4-1 record, putting them back on top of the lowly NFC East division.

The 27-year-old has had a rough start to the 2020 campaign. His interception on Thursday marked his 10th of the season, and he's now tied with Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins for the most picks thrown this year. Wentz's 10 interceptions are the most by an Eagles quarterback since Sam Bradford in 2015.

Wentz has picked up the pace over his last three games, though, and the Eagles nearly beat the Baltimore Ravens during Week 6. Still, his play has simply not been good enough, and he'll need to play his best game of the season next week against the Dallas Cowboys to prevent them from taking over the top spot in the division.

Thursday's game between the Eagles and Giants was very similar to their Week 14 meeting last season. Philadelphia overcame a 17-3 deficit to win 23-17 in overtime. That game was the start of a four-game winning streak for the Eagles, which helped propel them into the playoffs.
