With a lackluster performance by James Starks so far this training camp and the off-season departure of Ryan Grant, the Green Bay Packers appeared to be thin at running back entering the 2012 season.

To address this issue, the Packers are reportedly close to signing veteran running back Cedric Benson. According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, Benson is in Green Bay to meet with the team and is expected to sign.

Benson, a former college star from the University of Texas, racked up three straight 1000 yard seasons with the Bengals after three disappointing seasons with the Bears to start his career.

From a fantasy perspective, Benson’s value will skyrocket if he does in fact sign with the Pack. He may not rush for 100 yards, however, he would likely be a lock to score 10 TD’s in the high-powered Green Bay offense

Cedric Benson will probably commit his next criminal action in Green Bay! So, congratulations to the residents and bar owners there. The veteran running back's best days are behind him but he will have a chance to outperform competition in Green Bay. This signing is reflective of the poor performance thus far in camp by incumbent starter James Starks. He has underwhelmed...

The Green Bay Packers solidified their tailback depth on Friday, plucking the former Bengals running back off the free agent market.

Cedric Benson to the Packers, Fantasy Football Analysis

As I was walking down the hallway today, I heard this loud destructive sound from the distance. I flinched for a moment, then realized it was the dynasty value of James Starks crashing down as the Packers are reportedly poised to sign Cedric Benson tonight. Dynasty owners were cautiously hoping Starks could develop into the lead back for Green Bay this season and be a nice...

Cedric Benson to Green Bay?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that free agent Cedric Benson is currently in Green Bay and expected to sign with the Packers. Green Bay is no doubt a very pass-happy offense, but adding a veteran presence to the backfield may help in key division games or in tough redzone situations. Benson is ageing rapidly, especially with his off-season problems and visits to the local state...

Packers sign Cedric Benson

After going fully with a youth approach at the running back position this offseason, the Packers have finally caved and signed a veteran back, signing Cedric Benson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, to a one year contract. Prior to Benson’s signing, the idea was to have James Starks, a 2010 6th round pick with just 162 career carries, and Alex Green, a 2011 3rd round pick with...

Cedric Benson officially joins Packers

As expected, the Packers have bolstered their backfield. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cedric Benson officially signed a one-year contract on Sunday, becoming Green Bay’s newest running back. Financial terms aren’t yet available, though the pact is likely for the league minimum. Benson, 29, had been on the Packers’ radar for the last week due to starter James Starks‘ recent...

Report: Benson close to signing with Packers

One day after the Green Bay Packers' running game fell flat in the team's preseason opener, help might be on the way. ESPN's Chris Mortensen is citing sources who say free agent Cedric Benson, a 1,000-yard rusher in each of the past three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, is close to signing with the Packers. Both ESPN and Associated Press are reporting that Benson...

Cedric Benson? Really?

According to one report, the Packers signing of Cedric Benson is "probable." The move makes little sense on the surface and even less sense when you read the last line from our commentary.

Green Bay Packers close to deal with Cedric Benson

Could Cedric Benson be the answer to the Packers RB Problems? Even after three straight 1,000 yard season, the Cincinnati Bengals elected to let Cedric Benson walk in the off season. Rumors swirled about the Oakland Raiders, but nothing materialized. Benson was left in the Free Agent pool, as he had to stay in shape at his home, as he waited for the call, the security of an NFL...

New RB Benson Bolsters Battered Backfield

Before the addition of Cedric Benson, the Packers had been down to four running backs for practice this week, with injuries to James Starks and Brandon Saine, among others. At least by the numbers, Benson offers a dramatic upgrade to a young position.

Packers Expected To Sign Benson

The signing of Cedric Benson begs two questions. The first is why are the Packers interested in adding a 29-year-old running back? The second is why isn’t that 29-year-old running back named Ryan Grant. The answers to both questions are actually pretty easy. General manager Ted Thompson is adding a veteran running back because projected starter [...]

Quick Thoughts From Green Bay Packers Pre-Season Game One

Football season is here!! Oh wait….it’s just pre-season football.  Well it’s better than nothing. My issue with pre-season games is that the first game is usually pointless as the starters are on the field for such a short amount of time that if you go to the bathroom you may miss them playing entirely.  The first pre-season game is usually really sloppy and borderline pointless...
