Quarterback Kevin O'Connell was set to sign with the Chargers, according to the North County Times. San Diego signed Kyle Boller to temporarily replace injured Charlie Whitehurst (knee), but Boller abruptly retired the following day. A former star for San Diego State, O'Connell has spent time with the Patriots, Lions and Dolphins. Whitehurst is expected to miss about two weeks with a sprained MCL.
