Towards the end of the 2011 season Bears fans got a very good look at running backs Kahlil Bell and Armando Allen.

Bell had been wearing the blue & orange since 2009. He was signed to the Bears primarily as a special teamer when Garrett Wolfe went on the injured list.

His flashes of brilliance that year were good enough to keep him on board for 2010 and he managed to work his way to the active roster last season.

Armando Allen was a last minute addition to the practice squad last year after he was cut by Tampa Bay.

When Matt Forte and Marion Barber went down with injuries toward the end of the 2011 season, Bell was moved up to the starting spot. Allen edged out Robert Hughes for the backup spot, Hughes is no longer with the team.

Kahlil Bell and Armando Allen are very similar to one another. They both played at major Division I colleges with Bell playing at UCLA and Allen playing for Notre Dame. Both players were signed to the team as rookies after being cut by the teams they originally started out with. Both players were also undrafted out of college.

These guys are also similar in their style of play as well. They are both speed backs that can run between the tackles as well as east and west. They are also deadly in the passing game as receivers coming out of the backfield. They can contribute on special teams as well. They are good complements for the both power game that Michael Bush plays, and the all-around game that Matt Forte plays.

And when you add up all of these atributes and combine them with last seasons accomplishments, the Bears' coaching staff has a tough decision on their hands. Deciding who the No. 3 back will be will not be an easy task. And unless someone gets cut or injured {God forbid} beforehand this will take all four preseason games to decide. Keep tuned to your television sets because it will be fun to watch.
