Chicago Bears Football– According to, the only thing Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long will be talking about from now on is his dog, Walter. After the Buffalo Bills announced they do not plan to franchise tag free agent to-be Jairus Byrd, Kyle Long took to Twitter in an attempt to recruit the free safety to Chicago. Shortly after sending the tweet, Long deleted the message and left this reply: I’ll stick to Walter tweets — Kyle Long (@Ky1eLong) March 3, 2014 Who is Jairus Byrd? Jairus Byrd is a 3-time Pro Bowl free safety who recently was told by the Buffalo Bills that he will not being receiving the team’s franchise tag. Byrd has been a member of the Bills for all five of his seasons in the NFL after being selected by the team in the 2nd round of the 2009 draft. Byrd is coming off his second-consecutive Pro Bowl season, in which he recorded five interceptions, one sack and thirty-seven tackles in 11 games. For his career, Byrd 22 interceptions and five fumble recoveries to go along with his 256 tackles. A former Oregon Duck, Byrd has been named to the All-Pro Second Team each of the past two seasons by the Associated Press. The Tweet According to Reddit, Kyle Long sent a tweet enticing the free safety to come to Chicago shortly after the Bills made their announcement. Ending the recruiting pitch with what was meant to read, “#DuckGang”, it is obvious that Long is trying to get fellow Oregon Alumni to come play for Chicago. The Backlash Shortly after sending the tweet out, Long deleted his message. The reason for this is only speculation, but according to, it was due to enormous backlash by the Chicago Bears community. If this is the case and Bears fans are upset with Long trying to bring other talent to Chicago — especially on the defensive side where the team has a host of issues –, people really need to reconsider their stance on the whole recruiting situation. Long is doing exactly what a lot of Chicago Bulls fans want Derrick Rose to do. The former NBA MVP has made his stance on recruiting very clear — he won’t do it. This has frustrated a great deal of Bulls faithful who know their team is just one superstar away from contending for an NBA title. For the Bears Kyle Long though, apparently this is off- limits. Why The Bulls Can’t Win With Derrick Rose   After seeing how atrociously bad the Bears defense was last year, Long — and everyone else in the world — knows that the Bears need to improve. Offensively, they were one of the best in the game. They were Super Bowl caliber. The only thing holding them back was their defense, and Long is trying to change that. Chicago Bears Cap Situation Just an F.Y.I. for all Bears fans out there: Chicago is strapped for cash this offseason. As much as you all may want them to improve on the defensive end through free agency, it is not going to happen unless players are willing to take less money. The only way that is going to happen is if the player either A) wants to win a championship or B) wants to play with certain people. Kyle Long was trying to go for both option A and B with that tweet, and there is no reason anyone should care about what he did. A Higher Power Has Control There is also a strong possibility the Chicago Bears and their front office stepped in and asked Long to take down his tweet. There is no evidence of this, but for an organization who prides themselves on doing things a certain way, maybe Long’s tweet went against their social media guidelines. Getting To Know Walter Although his age is not completely confirmed via social media, Walter is an eight-month old beagle/bulldog mix that is quickly gaining fans across Bears Nation. Named after Walter Payton, Walter is a huge fan of the team himself. You can catch him taking selfies or lounging in Kyle’s chair on most occasions. The ladies love him and the guys are jealous of his good looks. Either way, Walter is living the life that we all dream of living, so just seeing pictures of him on Long’s Twitter from now on is such a bad thing — Hopefully Long can recruit a few players to the team though as well. _________ Source(s): Reddit; Bleacher Report Photo: Twitter Author informationMatthew DlugieFeatured Columnist at Sports MockeryIf you have any questions or comments please contact - Thank you for reading.TwitterFacebookGoogle+LinkedInThe post Chicago Bears Fans Bash Kyle Long For Recruiting Tweet appeared first on Sports Mockery.
