In the wake of the Lovie Smith firing three names have already emerged as potential candidates according to various new reports.  The first name that may need to be taken seriously is Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.  Reports are that the Bears have already contacted McCoy about the job.   McCoy has been the Broncos' offensive coordinator since 2009, he came in with Josh McDaniels as part of the new regime in Denver while Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall were still with the team.  Cutler's interaction with McCoy was brief as he was traded to the Bears shortly after the hire.   Marshall on the other hand spent one season under McCoy's offense where he racked up 101 receptions for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Marshall's 10 touchdowns under McCoy were his career high up until he notched 11 touchdowns this season.   From there Marshall went on to be traded to the Miami Dolphins leaving  Denver after a rocky relationship. It's unknown if there was a problem between McCoy and Marshall or whether it was purely Marshall's relationship with Josh McDaniels that led to his departure from Denver.  That is a dynamic that could be one to keep an eye on given Marshall's departure and the nature of such departure.   During McCoy's tenure in Denver he has gotten the most out of any QB that's been there, getting a 3,000 yard passing season out of Jake Delhomme, two 3,000 yard seasons out of Kyle Orton.  From there McCoy led a strong run oriented attack with Tim Tebow at the helm.  Showing an ability to adjust his offense to his personal put the Broncos in the playoffs.   Two other coaches that are allegedly getting consideration according to Jim Miller are two college coaches, Nick Saban of Alabama and Brian Kelly of Notre Dame.  Saban's first tenure in the NFL didn't work out so well.   Saban seems to make little sense given his 3-4 oriented defense which wouldn't mesh well with a lot of the personnel currently in place.  It would also seem Brian Kelly's tenure at Notre Dame has been completely uneventful other than the one national title appearance he has put together.  The question is has Kelly built the program up enough for long lasting success or is he a one year wonder that could see his program fall off considerably next year.
