A weakness has become a strength once again as the Bears have traded a late round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Bucs for defensive tackle Brian Price.

Price immediately becomes the likely replacement for Amobi Okoye who coincidentally left the Bears in free agency to join Tampa.  Okoye's signing left the Bucs with an overload of DTs and it seemed to make sense to land Price in the process.

Price was a second round pick of the Bucs in 2010, and is only 23-years-old, he adds depth and youth to the Bears' defensive line.

While the Bucs were last in run defense last year according to NFL stats, Price played comparably to Amobi Okoye during the 2011 season.    According to FootballOutsiders.com "Brian Price...played well all season and cannot be held responsible for the failures of the McCoy replacements lined up next to him."

Phil Emery alluded to the Bears looking to improve the defensive tackle position during his press conference on Monday when he was directly asked about the depth at the interior.

""I believe we do. We signed Nate Collins, DeMario Pressley and John McCargo early. Those folks, along with the group that we had, does provide a good rotation of players to see who comes forth in camp, to see who is that fourth defensive lineman," Emery said.

"Does that mean that at any given part of our roster we've stopped looking?  No, it doesn't,"  Emery said.

Emery expressed public confidence which is what any GM would do, while simultaneously letting it be known that he wasn't against looking improve the defensive tackle position.

Emery did just that by acquiring Price from the Bucs.  Price gives the Bears depth while contributing to the win now factor, while also developing the roster in the future with his youth.

While not as glamorous as the Brandon Marshall trade, the trade immediately fills what could have turned into a glaring hole on defense.

If Henry Melton goes down with an injury the Bears have no real capable starter behind him.  If ANY defensive tackle went down with an injury there was no one really capable.

Price immediately solves that problem and gives the Bears the rotational depth at DT that they and every team in the NFL uses.

Keeping DTs fresh is very important to the overall success of the Bears defensive scheme and Brian Price now makes what was once a concern a position of strength once again.

Price was also a strong player coming out of UCLA during the run up to the 2010 draft.  I watch a lot of Pac-12 football games and Price was always a player that caught my eye.  He fits the mold of what the Bears look for in a DT  to perfection.

He is quick, he's strong and athletic and is ideally suited for the one-gap scheme.  Emery pulls off another stroke of genius trade and shows how serious he is in developing the Bears into a contender.
