EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Geoff Schwartz signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings last offseason hoping to re-establish himself as a starter in the NFL following hip surgery. Schwartz never got the chance to break through as a starter on Minnesota's offensive line, but he could get another opportunity next season after agreeing to terms Friday with the Kansas City Chiefs. One of 10 unrestricted free agents for the Vikings when signing opened Tuesday, Schwartz reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with Kansas City, where he could have the potential to start. Schwartz, 26, tweeted the news Friday afternoon. "Excited to officially be a new member of the @kcchiefs!," Schwartz wrote on his Twitter page (@GeoffSchwartz76). "Also got to thank all the Vikings followers and fans. Loved the interact and support...but I'm pumped for my new opportunity... I'm finally healthy and ready to help contribute to some Chiefs victories!" Schwartz, a seventh-round pick by the Panthers in 2008, started all 16 games for Carolina in 2010 but missed the entire 2011 season because of hip surgery. He played in 13 games last season as the backup to right guard Brandon Fusco, splitting reps with Fusco during the middle of the season. But Minnesota is hoping for continued progress from Fusco entering his third year in the NFL. Schwartz joins a Chiefs team that has undergone several changes under new coach Andy Reid, and he could figure in as a starter at guard or tackle for Kansas City. Follow Brian Hall on Twitter.
