Look there are a dozen reasons this whole thing will be as outdated as a flip-phone soon enough but while the numbers line up we might as well say it out loud: This Chiefs’ defense has a chance to go down as one of the best in recent NFL memory. Honest. Now we’re all adults here. We all know the Chiefs’ first six opponents included the Jaguars and maybe two playoff teams (the Titans and someone from the awful NFC East) while their next 10 opponents include five currently in the top five in offense (starting this week against the Texans and peaking with two games against the Broncos). So what the Chiefs are doing at the moment is a bit like leading a marathon at mile six but well after years of throwing up in the sponsors’ tent by this point it’s worth taking a moment to recognize that this defense isn’t just fueling a 6-0 start it’s playing at a historic pace. On Wednesday Tamba Hali was announced as the AFC’s defensive player of the week. That means that between Hali and fello...

Are the Chiefs just a product of an easy schedule; We will find out…

The Broncos, the Seahawks and the Chiefs had all had pretty easy schedules to be honest, but look at who the Chiefs have played. They beat the Giants and Jaguars, who are terrible. The took down the Cowboys, Eagles, Raiders, and Titans, who are at best .500 teams.  They have not played anybody yet that was […]

Kansas City Chiefs exceeding expectations

The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten off to a start that has exceeded most expectations, but certainly not the expectations of myself. The Chiefs produced six Pro Bowlers last year but had a miserable 2-14 record. After finishing the 2010 campaign with a mark of 10-6, the next two seasons were a huge disappointment and cost many people their jobs. Part of the “New Chiefs” consisted...

Kansas City Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles should be in the running for league MVP

Jamaal Charles As we near the halfway point of the 2013 NFL regular season, conversations about who should be in the running for the league’s most coveted individual award begin to heat up. The top performing quarterbacks in the league always lead the short list of candidates and deservedly so. However there are players at other positions that should be part of the conversation...

Chiefs' Smith eschews gaudy stats for simple wins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Every time Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith is flushed from the pocket, it seems that one of two things happens: He uses his fleet feet to scramble for yards, or he throws the ball away. Neither of which is a bad thing. The Chiefs have never had a quarterback who can make things happen on the ground with the same nimbleness as Smith, nor have they had one in recent...

Jamaal Charles overworked? Not according to him

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Five observations on the current state of the Chiefs. GIVE ME THE BALL Much has been written and said about Jamaal Charles perhaps getting overworked, and that the toll of all his hits will diminish his effectiveness later in the season. Puh-leeze, says Charles. "I'm not worried about my pace," Charles tells us. "I've been doing this...

Chiefs’ Branden Albert should be fine

The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 6-0 last week against the Raiders and kept on rolling, but there was a scare in that game.  Branden Albert got rolled up into when blocking for quarterback Alex Smith and it looked pretty serious as he looked like he was in a lot of pain.  Albert was able to walk off the field under his own power before being taken into the locker room. Albert...

Andy Reid says QB Alex Smith managing games has team in position to win: 'We’re winning football games and he’s doing a nice job of managing it'

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith is mostly known as a game manager, the dreaded moniker for saying 'he can't throw downfield. However, coach Andy Reid has no problem with it at all, matter of fact he used the term himself to describe his signal caller. Not losing a game is a skill all in its own right and Smith has done just that, putting his team in a position win.

Meet Akeem Jordan, the unsung member of the Chiefs' Fab Four LB corps

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In some ways, Akeem Jordan is the Ringo Starr of the Chiefs' linebacking group. Jordan, an inside linebacker, goes unnoticed for the most part, simply keeping the beat as the rest of the band -- Justin Houston, Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali -- rack up sacks and bask in the media spotlight. It's an unsung role Jordan doesn't mind. "It really...

Chiefs Defense Sacking Quarterbacks At Record Pace

The 6-0 Kansas City Chiefs have placed a high emphasis on getting to the passer. The Chiefs defensive unit ranks first in the NFL with 31 sacks this season, tied for the fifth-most sacks in the first six games of a season since 1963, when team sacks became an official NFL statistic (individual sacks became an official statistic in 1982).

Preview: 6-0 Chiefs welcome reeling Texans to noisy Arrowhead

The most opportunistic defense in the NFL and strong special teams have allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to overcome a mediocre offense for the second-best start in team history. The Houston Texans haven't been quite as fortunate, with a glaring turnover problem weighing down its league-best defense and otherwise quality offense. Kansas City (6-0) will look to capitalize on those...

Chiefs on pace to set sacks record

Texans coach Gary Kubiak felt an overwhelming sense of empathy for Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor when he watched video of him against the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend. If Pryor turned one direction, he ran into Tamba Hali. Turn the other, Justin Houston was on top of him. Try to step up in the pocket and Derrick Johnson was waiting. Pryor was sacked 10 times in a 24-7 victory...

Texans vs. Chiefs Preview: Dial it Up

On Sunday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs face a Houston Texans team that has their backs to the wall. They’re already fading out of the AFC South picture and with an embattled quarterback, a head coach searching for answers and one of the best defensive players on the planet, they have one thing in mind.

What are the odds the 9-0 Chiefs and Broncos play in Week 11?

Only two unbeaten teams are still standing in the NFL, and both are in the AFC West. That means that even if the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs continue to tear the opposition apart, something will eventually have to give. "Eventually" is actually capped at Week 11, because that's when the Broncos and Chiefs will meet in Denver.  If the Broncos and Chiefs...
