When Brandon Flowers went down at training camp with what looked at the time to be a serious injury, Chiefs fans every where held their breath, hoping against hope that he’d simply miss a few practices, perhaps a pre-season game, and then come back ready to play in week one.

Then after the first game for Kansas City came and went last Sunday against Atlanta, with no Flowers on the field, those same fans began to wonder if they’d see their Pro Bowl cornerback at all this season.

Breathe easy Chiefs fans. Flowers is back.

According to Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star, Flowers participated fully today in practice, the first time he’s done that since July 29th. His status for Sunday’s game in Buffalo is still in question, but given that he went through an entire practice with the team, it’s likely that he’ll see the field at some point or another.

The Chiefs secondary was abused early and often last week against the Falcons, thanks in large part to Flowers’ absence and his backup Jacques Reeves playing miserably in his stead, so his return to the first team defense will be a welcome sight.

Kansas City will undoubtedly take some precaution with Flowers, preferring to ease him back into the flow of regular season games, but in the midst of one of the toughest parts of their 2012 schedule, the Chiefs can ill afford to be without him for long.

Flowers, 26, is in his fifth season with Kansas City, and has three years (plus this season) remaining on a five year, $50 million extension he signed last fall. In his first four seasons with the Chiefs, Flowers has played in 60 games, tallying 258 tackles, four forced fumbles, 13 interceptions, and three touchdowns.

Berry, Johnson give subplot to Chiefs vs Bills

Chiefs apologize on Twitter for ripping frustrated fan…on Twitter

By creating their own Twitter accounts, professional sports teams are accepting that the benefits of using social media outweigh the negatives of having to listen to fans air out their grievances.
