PLAYERS: Alex Smith
TEAMS: Kansas City Chiefs

The 49ers already received a second-round pick in the 2013 draft from the Kansas City Chiefs for Alex Smith. Another pick in 2014 was conditional on how the Chiefs performed in Year 1 with Smith at quarterback. If the Chiefs, who were 2-14 last season, finished with eight victories or better, the 49ers would receive Kansas City’s second-round selection in 2014. If the Chiefs were sub-.500, the 49ers would get a third-round selection. After eight games, the Chiefs are the only unbeaten team in the NFL. And the 49ers are guaranteed to receive Kansas City’s second-round pick. If the 49ers would like to see that pick acquired from the Chiefs to be the best-possible selection, they would now like to see the Chiefs go into a tailspin and fail to make the playoffs. Last season, Pittsburgh and Dallas finished with 8-8 records and missed the playoffs. Those teams rotated picking at Nos. 17 and 18 in each round. In the second round, their draft slots were 49th and 50th. If the Chiefs mak...

Kansas City's defense came up big again late LB Tamba Hali and CB Sean Smith returned turnovers for touchdowns in extending the Kansas City Chiefs' perfect start to nine straight games with a 23-13 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Worst 9-0 team of all-time? Get real! These Chiefs certainly are

First, to the haters. It's fun for the national pundits to throw tomatoes at the Kansas City Chiefs' 9-0 start. For one, they're the Chiefs, a franchise that has a PackersSteelers-level fan following -- without the PackersSteelers post-1970 trophy case to go with it. Over the past 40 years, the boys in red have built up a reputation as one of the great teases in pro sports...

Lurie: I root for Reid, Chiefs 'every week'

Jeffrey Lurie has a new favorite NFL football team. Scratch that. He has a new favorite “AFC” football team. You can probably guess which one. It’s the one coached by the guy Lurie hired 15 years ago to rescue his own franchise, the Philadelphia Eagles. Lurie was then, and remains now, very fond of Andy Reid, who has Kansas City atop the NFL at 8-0 just a few months after...

As the Kansas City Chiefs keep their strong start in perspective, the Buffalo Bills hope to turn things around by knocking off the NFL's only undefeated team. The visiting Chiefs look to go 9-0 for the first time in 10 years Sunday when they try to end their recent struggles against the Bills, who may not have their starting quarterback on the field. The first team in league...

Kid Goes As Colin Kaepernick For Halloween

This isn’t quite as good as the Baby Andy Reid, but I appreciate the effort and like the costume choice. Here’s the tweet, “My little nephew going to his Halloween Dance as Colin Kaepernick! Haha” Not a bad looking costume, kid has the bill of the hat down pat. Colin Kapernick Dating Two Track Stars? Baby Andy Reid Hands Down the Greatest Costume Ever

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills: Five Things We Learned

The Chiefs rolled into Ralph Wilson stadium Sunday afternoon to take on the Buffalo Bills. Kansas City came into the game riding a perfect 8-0 record, a 4.6 ypg carry average from Jamaal Charles, and the league’s best defense. This is the polar opposite of Buffalo, who is starting their 3rd QB of the year due to a rash of injuries, a surprising defense led by rookie Kiko Alonso...

Chiefs look as vulnerable as ever in close win over the Bills

The Kansas City Chiefs ran into serious problems in Buffalo, but at the end of the day, the Chiefs are still the only unbeaten team in the NFL. Still, there’s cause for concern in Kansas City after witnessing the Bills dominate the Bills in every fashion, only giving the Chiefs the win due to a few key mistakes. The Chiefs’ strategy to this point in the season has been to play...

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills: 2013 Week 9 NFL Pick

Kansas City Chiefs (8-0) at Buffalo Bills (3-5) Damnit. I was so ready to pick an upset here for Buffalo. Buffalo is better than their record, especially at home. In 4 home games, they’ve beaten a pair of top-15 teams on these Power Rankings (Carolina, Baltimore) and almost beat another pair of top-10 teams (New England, Cincinnati). I don’t think the Chiefs are significantly...

Fantasy Football Injury Report Week 9

Jamaal Charles (KC) RB: Charles sat out from practice on Wednesday, likely as a precautionary measure for his knee. He will be playing on Sunday, and is a must-start. Thaddeus Lewis (BUF) QB: Firstly, if your quarterback situation has come down to playing Thad Lewis, you may have bigger issues. Nevertheless, his status for Sunday’s matchup with the Chiefs is up in the air. Consider...

Bills deviate from run game late in loss to Chiefs

The Buffalo Bills' run game had a lot pressure on its shoulders in taking on an undefeated Kansas City Chiefs team with a legit run defense. And by all accounts, the group exceeded expectations — at least when it was given the chance.Through three quarters, Buffalo's running back duo of C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson had amassed nearly 200 yards on the ground and had carried...
