FootBasket:
UPDATE: Belcher reportedly killed his girlfriend in front of her mother! Belcher also thanked Crennel and Pioli before taking his own life.
Several reports have already came in that an unnamed player on the Kansas City Chiefs committed suicide at the team’s facility. You probably have heard the news already, so let’s break it down.
The player has yet to be unidentified, but most sources have claimed it is linebacker Jovan Belcher. His Wikipedia page has already been updated to be talking in past-tense and that he is officially dead. Most of the outlets have confirmed it is Belcher. I guess we’ll just only have to wait until the Chiefs confirm that it was him.
Belcher had been in an on-and-off relationship with his girlfriend and then reportedly killed her Saturday morning. This led to him going to the team’s facility at Arrowhead Stadium, talking with the coaches like Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli. However, that is where Belcher killed himself, using a gun right in front o them.
What really is sad is that the couple had a three-month-old child, who is now left behind. The Chiefs will reportedly play against the Carolina Panthers Sunday.
“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation,” the Chiefs said in a statement.
Awful, awful news here in KC.

Dancing on the tightrope: the Jovan Belcher Tragedy
by John Viril—
I know I write a Kansas City Royals blog, but Jovan Belcher’s tragic suicide today at Arrowhead Stadium cuts beyond any topic limits. I cannot help but think about the place of sports in our society and what role, if any, that his profession might have had in the terrible events that occurred this morning.
I’d like to think that sports had nothing to do with...
