After only a week of organized team activities, the Kansas City Chiefs head coaches are already praising new quarterback Alex Smith (Credit: AP Photo) After a week of organized team activities, the Kansas City Chiefs coaches have had a small amount of time to view their newly acquired quarterback Alex Smith. Despite the short amount of practice time, the coaches are impressed by Alex Smith. In fact, the Kansas City coaches believe Smith is everything they thought he was prior to organized team activities. “He’s been everything that we thought he was,” Chiefs quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy said of Smith, via the Kansas City Star. “He’s a true professional. He’s in his [playbook] every day. He’s always asking questions, trying to get better. He’s being a leader for the other [quarterbacks] as well.” “He’s comfortable with what we’re doing,” Pederson said. “He’s understanding the terminology, and he’s orchestrating that at the line of scrimmage. We’re really pleased with where he’s at right now.” Smith needs to continue to grow into the team’s leader and perform on the field when the regular season begins. I like to think that the Chiefs asked former head coach Dennis Green what he thought about Alex Smith and the only answer they could get out of him was “they are who we thought they were”.
