Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes knows one NBA player who can easily make the switch to the NFL
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

There's a hot topic in professional sports, particularly between the NBA and the NFL. It's a debate about whether players from one league could successfully transition to another. While no one from the K ansas City Chiefs has made such a claim, quarterback Patrick Mahomes knows one player in the NBA who can definitely play in the NFL.

Before we go any further, let's get one thing right: I can neither play professionally for either of them nor have I played them professionally, so this is my opinion. But some things I see on Twitter and podcasts about the subject are funny.

As someone who covers the NFL, I believe that more NBA players could potentially excel in the NFL than vice versa. This is based on my observation of the skill and intelligence required in both sports. The question of toughness, however, is a different matter. But, again, this is just my perspective, open to debate and discussion.

Patrick Mahomes, a Texas native, has supported his Dallas Mavericks team throughout the playoffs. The second round just recently concluded, and they are now up 2-1 over the Oklahoma City Thunder in a best-of-seven series.

He and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, were seen at the last game courtside in Dallas. Mahomes then revealed one player that he thinks could make the transition to the NFL.

During the broadcast, the play-by-play commentator said that sitting next to the desk, Mahomes said that OKC Thunder forward Lu Dort could play in the NFL as a linebacker.

If you do not know who that is, a quick Google search will show you he is a very large human who stands at about 6'4", maybe 6'5", and is 220 pounds of almost pure muscle. He often guards players who are much, much larger than him, and he is one of the best defenders in the NBA with great awareness.

I'm not going to say he easily can, but if anyone knows a good football player when they see one, it is Patrick Mahomes, the best player on earth.
