Found November 06, 2012 on Football Nation:
We've just seen word that the Kansas City Chiefs have decided to "shake things up" after a historically bad start to the 2012 season that has left them with a 1-7 record, without holding a lead the entire season, and looking like the clear-cut choice for the worst team in professional football. The good news is that Kansas City Chiefs' Romeo Crennel has relieved himself of the defensive coordinator position. The bad news is that he's still their head coach. Crennel appointed current Chiefs' linebackers coach Gary Gibbs as defensive coordinator. Unfortunately for Crennel this decision may have come about 3 months too late. Crennel claimed he was not overwhelmed by both roles. Technically he was correct. He has shown that he has been completely overwhelmed by either of the roles. His bread and butter as a defensive mind has come into question as the Chiefs have failed to get quality stops on opponents all year aside from the Baltimore game. As a head coach he ...

Romeo Crennel steps down

The Chiefs defense cannot stop anything this season, so head coach Romeo Crennel stepped down on Monday. Well...not from his head coaching post, but hanging up one of his other hats in the organization.

Crennel no longer calling shots on defense

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Two weeks ago, Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel benched quarterback Matt Cassel in favor of backup Brady Quinn in an effort to get his team's attention. With his team slipping further into oblivion, Crennel on Monday took another stab at grabbing his 1-7 team's attention by essentially firing himself as defensive coordinator. Crennel announced he would...

Crennel relinquishes defensive duties

Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel relieved himself of duties as defensive coordinator on a day of massive changes that included the waiving of cornerback Stanford Routt and the signing of defensive tackle Shaun Smith. Crennel had been juggling head coaching and coordinator duties since taking over on an interim basis when Todd Haley was fired last December. Gary Gibbs will take over as...

Crennel, Chiefs face desperate times

Coach Romeo Crennel knows only one way to handle the type of mess the Chiefs' 2012 season has been: He works even harder than his normal pace, which would fatigue many men much younger than Crennel's 65 years. During the team's bye week and over the long weekend after losing to the San Diego Chargers on a Thursday night, Crennel gave the players and his staff time off...

NFL Rumors: Where will Kansas City Chiefs CB Stanford Routt land?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded away suspended cornerback Aqib Talib last week and now faces the loss of free agent CB acquisition Eric Wright for four games. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers must put in a waiver wire claim for veteran corner Stanford Routt. Routt was signed this offseason by the Kansas City Chiefs after being cut by the Oakland Raiders, but the Chiefs are a complete disaster...

Chiefs release Stanford Routt

The Kansas City Chiefs have released cornerback Stanford Routt after only eight games since coming in as a free agent. Chiefs Waive CB Stanford Routt

Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have waived CB Stanford Routt to make room for recently signed DT  Shaun Smith. This move comes as a bit of a surprise, but it is worthy noting that Pro Football Focus has Routt listed as the No. 85 best cornerback out of 101. Routt’s all-around game has dropped off this season, which is clearly disappointing...

One More Move?
