The Kansas City Chiefs began working in earnest Monday for their season opener at Jacksonville while also trying to work seven new players into the fold.
The Chiefs were awarded them off the waiver wire Sunday, while also cutting loose six more as they continue to churn the bottom of the roster. Because they had the No. 1 selection in the NFL draft, the Chiefs also had the top priority in claiming players released by other teams.
The series of moves they made Sunday resulted in a 53-man roster with 30 newcomers heading into Sunday's opener against the Jaguars. That includes all three quarterbacks and all the tight ends.
''If there's a time to do it,'' GM John Dorsey said of the overhaul, ''the time is now.''

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Change is ... good, right? If you're keeping score (and we hope you're doing it in pencil), of the 53 players who constitute the Kansas City Chiefs' active roster, almost exactly half -- 26 of them -- weren't a part of last fall's 2-14 dumpster fire.
That's some kind of crazy turnover, even by NFL standards. Outside linebackerspecial teams...
The Kansas City Chiefs hope they've finally assembled the right 53.
That was the phrase that former general manager Scott Pioli used to describe his ideal roster, but he never really came close to achieving it. In fact, his pursuit of the right 53 ended with a 2-14 record last year.
The Chiefs have overhauled that roster this year under new GM John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid...

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki has battled
injuries throughout his short career. He was poised to enter the 2013 season
healthy, but he recently suffered a fractured shoulder. As a result, he’s out
indefinitely, and the Chiefs weren’t willing to be patient with the former
third-round pick. Moeaki sent out his farewell via Twitter, and hours later the
Chiefs made the...

It didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs to shake up their 2013 roster. Less then 24 hours after getting to the league mandated 53 man roster, the Chiefs cut six players, traded another, added seven new bodies to fill those spots and added eight to their taxi squad.
