In case you don't get the reference in the post title (ie, you weren't born before like 1970), back in the early/mid 70's the Cincinnati Reds used to be called "The Big Red Machine." But fast forward 35 years, and there's a new Big Red Machine in southwest Ohio, Bengals QB Andy Dalton (I'm going to give you all the benefit of the doubt and assume you understand why I'm calling him The Big Red Machine 2.0).In case you've had your head up your ass, the Bengals are a whole different animal from what they've been in the past, not the least aspect of which is Dalton (and not Carson Palmer) under center.Fact is, say whatever you want, but they're currently leading the entire AFC. Yes, that's probably as anomalous as it is unbelievable, but as they say, you ain't #1 unless you're #1.So, it's the Steelers jobs to change that. The zubaz-wearing, Queen's City rollers have indeed won five straight, albeit three of those wins c...

Bengals CB Hall suffers Achilles injury vs. Steelers

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Leon Hall injured his Achilles tendon during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that many of Hall's teammates fear that it is a season-ending injury. Hall intercepted a pass bobbled by Steelers tight end Heath Miller earlier in the second quarter, but then suffered his injury during...

Bengals CB Leon Hall Done For The Year With Torn Achillies Tendon

The Bengals lost more than an AFC North battle Sunday. After coming up short in their 24-17 showdown with the Steelers, Cincinnati learned CB Leon Hall is out for the year after tearing an Achilles' tendon according to PFT's Mike Florio. Despite being a first-round pick in 2007, Hall is one of the league's more underrated corners. He's pilfered 20 passes in his career...

Disappointing day for Bengals

CINCINNATI -- A.J. Green went up between Ryan Clark and Troy Polamalu, two of the game's best safeties. Green came down with the ball -- and a 36-yard Bengals touchdown. The Bengals' uber-rookie does things like that. Unfortunately, Green came down awkwardly on his right knee. He was down in the end zone for nearly a minute before being helped off. He came back and took...

Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap, TE Jermaine Gresham Listed As Questionable

Compared to past seasons the Bengals are pretty healthy at midseason, but the status of a couple of key players remains up in the air going into Sunday's AFC North clash against Pittsburgh. Defensive end Carlos Dunlap and tight end Jermaine Gresham returned to practice Friday, but they are listed as questionable on the injury report. Cornerback Adam Jones (hamstring) likely will...

Week 10: Steelers vs. Bengals Preview

So, the preview is going to be shorter than usual this week. As luck would have it, I am in Cincinnati, playing in this chess tournament (if I run into any Bengals players, I’ll make sure to direct them to the nearest bar). Therefore, I don’t have as much time to write as I normally would. All I’ll say about last week’s game is: if a graph can be sickening, this would be...

Steelers hold off upstart Bengals 24-17 (AP)

With the game on the line, rookie Andy Dalton couldn't handle a little old-fashioned Pittsburgh defense. Rashard Mendenhall ran for a pair of touchdowns Sunday, and the Steelers intercepted Dalton twice in the fourth quarter, holding on for a 24-17 victory over the upstart Cincinnati Bengals. Pittsburgh (7-3) ended the Bengals' five-game winning streak and got a needed victory.
