When the Cleveland Browns announced earlier this week that Eric Steinbach will be placed on injured reserve, it was expected that the team would look to acquire some depth in order to help fill the massive void. Cleveland wasted no time in bringing in a little insurance as the team announced their acquisition of former Baltimore Ravens guard, Oniel Cousins.
Cousins was a four-year player for the Ravens and made a handful of spot starts while backing up some of their more experienced offensive linemen. Baltimore expected Cousins to finally step into a starting role during the 2011 season, but was simply not coming along fast enough in order to take a chance on him.
The Browns will bring in Cousins to be a backup to Jason Pinkston or any other lineman that struggles throughout the season. The Browns currently have John Greco on the active roster, but always have a need for talented linemen with the run-heavy offense they have implemented throughout recent seasons.
