The Browns began trimming defensive players today, as they released six players, including former Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers. The team also let go of linebackers David Bowens and Eric Barton, defensive lineman Kenyon Coleman, tight end Robert Royal, and offensive lineman John St. Clair. To be honest, none of these moves are that surprising, and that includes Rogers. He only started one game in 2010, due to injuries and the emergence of Ahtyba Rubin as the nose tackle of the future. Not to mention he was going to make $5.5 million with a $500,000 roster bonus in 2011. New defensive coordinator Dick Jauron is in the process of transitioning the Browns into a 4-3 defense, so there are bound to be more changes as he and the rest of the staff try to make the pieces fit. As for the offensive players, Royal and St. Clair were certainly expendable. So far, these are moves that I think Browns fans will be okay with.
