According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Detroit Lions will not place the franchise tag on defensive end Cliff Avril again, which means he’ll hit the free agent market and likely sign somewhere else. Avril had 38 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 9.5 sacks in 2012.  And at the age of 26 he’s in the prime of his career and could help a team like the Seahawks.     Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })();

The 10 Worst Running Backs In The NFL Today

10. Mikel Leshoure, Detroit LionsThe Lions brought him in looking for a back that could produce big gains and hit the 1,000-yard mark.Unfortunately for the Lions and their fans, he was just another average back that couldn’t bring enough relief to the passing game. He tends to carry his body high, and his cutting ability isn’t the best in the league. The Lions hoped for a savior...

Mayhew to stick with same draft strategy for Lions

Despite his team's glaring needs on defense, Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has stubbornly stuck to the "Best Player Available" mentality when it comes to making selections in the NFL Draft. At least that's the way he explained decisions such as taking offensive players -- tackle Riley Reiff and receiver Ryan Broyles -- with the team's first two...

Barry Sanders: Gay player should expect teasing

This might be the closest thing to a controversial soundbite that we will ever hear from former Detroit Lions great, Barry Sanders. Arguably the greatest running back of all-time (his father would tell you he’s not), was always extremely quiet. He simply handed the ball of to officials whenever he scored, and never said anything that the media could turn into a story. So it was...

Offseason Needs: Detroit Lions

1. Defensive End If the Detroit Lions re-sign Cliff Avril, this becomes slightly less of a need. But regardless of Avril’s future with the team, they need to find a replacement for veteran Kyle Vanden Bosch who is well past his prime and was a liability this past season. Bjoern Werner, Damontre Moore and Dion Jordan should all be near the top of the Lions draft board. 2. Cornerback...

Texans reportedly likely won’t franchise Connor Barwin

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, his sources doubt the Houston Texans will end up placing the franchise tag on linebacker Connor Barwin this offseason. La Canfora does believe Barwin could end up re-signing with the Texans after testing the free agent market.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'...

Report: Jets don’t believe they have the money to re-sign Dustin Keller

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the New York Jets don’t  believe they have the money to re-sign tight end Dustin Keller this offseason. This makes a lot of sense since the Jets are over the cap by about $18 million I believe. Keller is a very good tight end that will get some nice offers on the open market that the Jets won’t be able to compete with.   Need NFL...

Report: Ravens will make re-signing Elerbe a top priority, Kruger likely gone

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, it doesn’t look like the Baltimore Ravens will be able to retain linebacker Paul Kruger, since they’ll make re-signing Dannell Ellerbe a priority this offseason. Paul Kruger has been a playoff comet, rising to prominence as an edge rusher for the Ravens. With him possibly commanding $9 million a year on the open market, it’s hard...
