On January 7th, 2012 Penn State announced that Bill O’Brien (Former New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator) would take over duties as the Head Coach for Penn State Football. Bill O’Brien knew his plate would be full with a lot of raw meat, battling many challenges but was ready to take on any task which lied in front of him.

After Penn State concluded spring practice this year, Head Coach Bill O’Brien announced that 5th year senior Matt McGloin would be the starting quarterback for the 2012 season. Matt McGloin has been through it all during his stay at Penn State, especially during the 2011 season when he had to split playing time with QB Rob Boldenduring most games but managed to throw for over 1,500 passing yards and 8 passing

With all the news circulating Penn State with regards to the Jerry Sandusky-child sexual abuse scandal, the NCAA has allowed Penn State football players to transfer right away without losing any years of eligibility.

“The NCAA recognized that current football student athletes will be negatively impacted by the Penn State sanctions,” said Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president for academic and membership affairs. “We want to allow those eligible student athletes as much flexibility as possible while still being mindful of some of the transfer safeguards our membership has put in place.”

Since Monday, Coach O’Brien has held two meetings with his football team and during both meetings his voice was heard.

“Penn State is a place that combines great academics with good, tough football. None of that has changed. I feel good about this team. They care about this University and this football team. The way you travel through life is how you handle adversity,” he said. “You can’t dwell on the past. You’ve got to move forward. That’s what we’re doing.”

Every single football player on the Nittany Lions roster knew O’Brien is a human after all and he cannot lead a team to success by himself. The only way Penn State could get through this crisis is by working together as a family day in and day out.

Senior QB Matt McGloin spoke Tuesday urging his teammates and recruits to stay and cherish the Penn State family. There has been no transfers as of yet but there has been 2 decommits regarding the 2013 recruiting class. McGloin stated the following via Twitter:

If I have learned anything from this game, it is: “tough times don’t last, tough people do.” This program has been through some hard times. I and many others, have stayed here out of love for this university; its academic programs, teammates, our wonderful fans and tremendous student body. We, as student-athletes, are being punished for going to class, graduating, being involved in the community and playing football. Even though these penalties are extremely harsh, I am a Nittany Lion and will remain one. I believe in the core values I have learned in this program. It is not Nittany Lion Football. It is Nittany Lion family. I encourage all players, recruits, and supporters to stay committed to the greatest football program in America. Scholarships and bowl games cannot destroy the fabric of our family. Coach O’Brien and his staff will lead us through this difficult time. All I ask is for the fans to continue to believe in us. WE ARE!

O’Brien added that in coaching you are always taught to be prepared for anything that is thrown at you but encourages all fans to support and keeping bleeding Penn State Blue & White.

”I’m here to do the best job that I can for Penn State and for these kids on the team and this coaching staff. We get to start our season on September 1st in front of 108,00 strong and I couldn’t feel better about that,” said O’Brien.
