Found July 30, 2014 on Pro Football Spot:
The outlook on Indy’s backfield has gone from bright to murky again in a span of just a couple days. Vick Ballard was supposed to be all back and healthy after blowing out his knee early last season. Trent Richardson is primed for a rebound season in 2014 and Ahmad Bradshaw appears to have a healthy neck. But on just the second day of training camp, Ballard tore his Achilles tendon, meaning he would yet again miss the entire season. It was a brutal blow to not only the Colts’ backfield, but also Ballard himself as he spent the entire offseason rehabbing his knee for a chance to come back this season. Now that’s not happening. One of Ballard’s backfield mates, Stanley Havili—today’s “Countdown to Kickoff” honoree—has not been so lucky either. He also spent the whole offseason recovering from injury, and now he’s out for indefinitely longer. The Colts placed him on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list to start training camp, and if he’s still not healthy after that, he’ll be forced t

Indianapolis Colts night practice highlighted with an amazing play

The Indianapolis Colts hosted a night practice tonight in Anderson, Indiana to a fully packed crowd. Just hours earlier the Colts announced they had placed offensive lineman Donald Thomas on injured reserve. The second season in a row he will end his season on it. This coming less than a week that the Colts lost running back Vick Ballard on IR as well. Thomas was expected to anchor...

Why the Colts' T.Y Hilton is More than Just a Deep Threat

T.Y Hilton has a talent for the spectacular. The second-year receiver has become one of the most electrifying players in the entire league, ripping defenses to shreds with his raw speed and innate ability to go up and get the ball, despite his small stature. The Colts' receiver is known primarily as a deep threat, which is understandable. In his first year Hilton averaged an insane...

Indianapolis Colts running thin at running back after Ballard lost for season

The Indianapolis Colts presently have six running backs under roster, and virtually, only four will make the final cut. The first three strings were apparently all-but-locked-up heading into training camp, with Trent Richardson, Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard filling those roles, with only the last and final halfback spot being up for grabs. Unfortunately, a sudden season ending...

Horseshoe Mailbag: Is Trent Richardson a bust already

The “bust” label tends to be thrown out to any player drafted in the first round that does not live up to his hype right away. Granted most of the time the label is well deserved, but for Trent Richardson, whom is entering his third season, it is not. For the first time in his career Richardson will have had a full offseason to work with the same offensive coordinator. After...

Fantasy, Roster and Real Football Implications from Vick Ballard’s Injury

In the mad rush between the Annual release and my trip to Indianapolis for training camp this week, I’ve yet to lay out all of the implications from Vick Ballard’s season-ending Achilles tear. On one hand, Ballard is not an especially talented back, and losing him is not as big of a blow as losing a starter. On the other hand, with the iffy depth at running back and the Colts’...

Indianapolis Colts: Donald Thomas Re-Tears Quad; Likely Out for Season

The Indianapolis Colts need to do a better job protecting Andrew Luck in the pocket if they want any chance at competing for a Super Bowl, which is why the team’s offseason acquisition of offensive guard Donald Thomas in 2013 was such a big move. Two games into the 2013 season, Thomas tore his quadricep and was forced to miss the remainder of the season. Now, it appears Thomas...

Power Rankings: Indianapolis Colts hold steady in top-10 preseason edition

It’s finally here; football season has officially started. Every team in the NFL has reported for training camp, starting the process of preparing for opening day. And in the process, we’ve started to learn a little – both good and bad – about all 32 franchises. Some players are already starting to shine, while others are either struggling (best case) or getting injured ...

Monday Camp Notes: Indianapolis Colts

Davin Meggett participated in his initial practice after re-joining the team from last season, following the early news of Chris Rainey’s release for a violation of team rules. Meggett looked like he was in shape and took a significant number of snaps due to Trent Richardson sitting out yet another day per the wishes of Colts head coach Chuck Pagano. Meggett did go down in the...

Colts Place Donald Thomas on IR for 2nd Straight Year, Sign UDFA Eric Pike

Follow @MarcusDugan The Colts have officially placed guard Donald Thomas on Injured Reserve.  Thomas, who’s season ended after he tore a quad in week two last year, suffered the same injury in practice yesterday. Thomas played well in his limited time and is under contract for 2015 and 2016, but he’ll have to have some better luck to shake the dreaded “injury prone” label...

Matt Hasselbeck was completely flattered by his random drug test

The NFL's drug policy applies universally to linebackers, punters and veteran quarterbacks — including 38-year-old Colts backup Matt Hasselbeck. On Thursday, Hasselbeck's number came up and the league's medical team asked him for a sample. But the 17-year pro did not consider the supposed random testing a nuisance. In fact, he was quite flattered to be selected at all.

Chuck Pagano says Colts decide who goes to the Super Bowl

ANDERSON, Ind. — Indianapolis Colts Coach Chuck Pagano has settled on a simple motto for 2014: "Decide."It's the one-word message Pagano has printed on T-shirts and preached this offseason. It is up to everyone to decide if this is the year to finish the objective printed on last year's shirts: "Hoist it." From those Lombardi T-shirts, to a wireless...

Colts Countdown to Kickoff: No. 40 Sheldon Price

The cornerback position—and the secondary in general—has never been the Colts’ forte. Especially now. Yes, they’ve traded for and signed former first-round picks Vontae Davis and LaRon Landry, respectively, but neither player has been what the team had hoped for. They can only hope for improvement in 2014, but it will be difficult as Antoine Bethea has left for the San Francisco...

2014 Fantasy Football – WR Rankings/Outlook Part 2

16 - Larry Fitzgerald – Like Reggie Wayne, Fitz was primarily an outside receiver. With age, Coach Bruce Arians moved the 33 year old Colts WR Reggie Wayne inside where he saw a rejuvenated 195 Targets while catching 106 balls for 1355 yards with the 2012 Colts. Bruce Arians wants to do the same with 30 […]

Reggie Wayne back to strengthen run for Hall

Among veteran WR storylines this offseason, Andre Johnson’s dissatisfaction with his situation in Houston dominated the headlines. But the preseason angle I’ll be keeping an eye on over the next couple weeks is Reggie Wayne’s recovery from his 2013 ACL tear. Wayne is a key to the chances Indianapolis carries to keep building a team that might be one of the AFC’s best and...

Is Adam Vinatieri a Hall of Famer?

That was a question posed this week on Reddit, and I couldn’t help but share my opinion in this spot. That’s because I continue to be very conflicted when it comes to allowing pure special-teamers into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So few spots are available on an annual basis and it feels as though logjams are becoming deeper at an extreme rate. Placekickers are on the field...
