Hours after he was cut loose by the Tennessee Titans for
financial reasons, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Hasselbeck is
close to agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts,
according to a source close to the player.
Prior to nearing his agreement with the Colts, Hasselbeck
was also tied to the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears,
Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, San
Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It shows the general weakness of the
quarterback market when so many teams were interested in a veteran backup.
With the Colts, Hasselbeck will be a reserve option playing
behind second-year player Andrew Luck. He offers Indianapolis an upgrade at the
No. 2 QB position, as he replaces Drew Stanton, who signed with the Arizona
Cardinals this offseason.
