Per defensive lineman Corey Wootton's agent he has agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings reports Dan Hanzus of NFL.com. Per a source who has seen the details of the contract it is worth a maximum of $2 million.Photo by Jeffrey Beall via WikimediaThe former Chicago Bears lineman has been dealing with a hip issue for the past two seasons. In that period he played in all 32 regular-season games for the Bears. He was not listed on the injury report in 2013. Wootton said he felt pain during the 2012 season and aggravated the hip in training camp last summer. Wootton underwent surgery on Jan 7 to repair the nagging hip injury. The arthroscopic procedure was performed by Dr. Benjamin Domb of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. At a press release the hospital said Wootton had his labrum — the ring of cartilage that holds the ball-and-socket joint in place as a shock absorber — repaired. He also had a terminal femoroacetabular impingement, which occurs when hip bones are abnormally shaped, decompressed. The hospital also quoted Wootton as having said, "I’m looking forward to being 100 percent recovered from this, to really showcase what I can do." The 26-year old, has battled his share of injuries dating back to his days as a Wildcat at Northwestern. In 2008, he suffered a torn ACL in the Alamo Bowl against Missouri. A neck injury revealed later dropped Wootton's stock in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Bears picked him in the fourth round. He admitted coming into camp his rookie year that he had yet to fully recover from the injuries that plagued him in college. The DL spent four seasons with the Chicago Bears. He started 15 games last season, finishing with 34 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. At 6-foot-6, 275 pounds the lineman is best known for his first career sack in December of 2010. He brought down legendary quarterback Brett Favre. The hit gave Favre a concussion that prevented him from playing in the final two games of his career. Wootton told the Sun-Times shortly after the hip procedure recovery would take four to six months. He said he felt good after the surgery and had started rehabilitation. The Northwestern product's ability to play multiple positions along the line make him a valuable asset to the Vikings. How Wootton checks out medically will be a key factor in determining when he will take the field this season.

Vikings sign free-agent DE Wootton

The Minnesota Vikings aren'€™t slowing down in their attempt to overhaul the league'€™s second-worst defense from last year and give new coach Mike Zimmer pieces for his unit. Former Chicago Bears defensive...

Vikings Captain Munnerlyn Looks Very Happy at the Strip Club (Photos)

First off, Munnerlyn didn’t spend a million dollars at the strip club. Don’t believe silly stuff like that. But, he did appear to be having a very good time at Onyx in Charlotte. Munnerlyn who signed a free agent contract with the Vikings was doing his best to help the stripper community with their rent this month. Strippers are people too.

Panthers Sign Former Vikings QB/WR Joe Webb

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that former Vikings QB/WR Joe Webb is signing with the Panthers. Webb, 27, played quarterback in his earlier years with the Vikings but was converted to a wide reciever the past two seasons.  Webb has been largely ineffective as a receiver thus far only catching five passes for 33 yards last season. However, Rapoport mentions that Webb is being...

Zimmer wants to build team around 'smart' players

Since 1981, the Minnesota Vikings have had their team headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minn., tucked in the Northwest corner of Highway 169 and Interstate 494. There have been tweaks to the facility over the years with more changes sure to come in the future, which includes the team's offices, an indoor fieldhouse and a pair of outdoor fields among other amenities. Mike Zimmer entered...

Oakland Raiders possible trade partner: Minnesota Vikings

The latest in my series of potential trade partners with the Oakland Raiders is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have a glaring need for a franchise quarterback the same as the Raiders do. They clearly have no confidence in Christian Ponder as a starter since they benched him last season. They only have one other QB on the roster, Matt Cassel, who is a solid back up but not a franchise...

According to Ben Goessling of ESPN.com, the Minnesota Vikings have shown some interest in free agent RB LaRod Stephens-Howling, as well as some other veteran running backs. Goessling mentions that Stephens-Howling previously played for Vikings RBs coach Kirby Wilson last year. However, Stephens-Howling is coming off a torn ACL, so there is some concern regarding how he...

Jared Allen decision expected in coming days

The Vikings won’t be bringing back Jared Allen, but the question now is whether Allen wants to return to the NFL at all with offers that are clearly below what he had hoped. It is looking like signing with Seattle or nothing anytime soon.

By the Numbers: How much did the Bears defense improve?

With most of the big free agent signings already over with and team’s focusing on the draft, it’s worth wondering how much better the Bears are right now than when they concluded the 2013 season. At least one famous Chicago writer speculated that the Bears aren’t really much better at all. Chicago Football’s Hub Arkush doesn’t think Lamarr Houston is an upgrade over Julius...

Seahawks Look to Jared Allen to Help Rebuild a Struggling Defense

Getty ImageIn order to help rebuild a defense that only recorded 28 interceptions and 44 sacks during the 2013 regular season, ESPN has reported that the Seattle Seahawks will sign Jared Allen away from the Vikings for the 2014 season. Though there are conflicting reports at this time, there is no doubt that the Seattle defense, after recording an abysmal +20 turnover ratio during...

Jared Allen makes second visit to Seattle

Free agent defensive end Jared Allen could make his decision about 2014 in the next couple of days according to ESPN’s Ed Werder. Allen, 31, has been one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers and is coming off a season in which he was in on 52 tackles and recorded 11.5 sacks for the Minnesota Vikings. When free agency began it appeared that Allen was ticketed for Denver but after...
