Found September 30, 2013 on Black and Gold Forever:
All signs point to Le'Veon Bell playing this Sunday. And Heath Miller is back too. So the other good news as far as injuries is Cortez Allen, who will also be back in the Steelers London game against the Minnesota Vikings. This report echoes many others like it, that Cortez practiced fully today and will be back after a ankle sprain he suffered against Tennessee. While the Steelers problems rest mostly on the offensive line, having our number two corner back is big news. We all know how you guys feel about William Gay. We feel it too. Gay returns to his nickel role and Shamarko Thomas, who played admirably in that position (despite allowing a touchdown on a gorgeous play by Earl Bennett) last Sunday against the Bears, will concede it. We like Cortez. He's a tough player, in the vein of his comrade Ike Taylor, who plays strong and close to receivers. But Cortez has way better hands and a knack for getting to the football. Ike might be the purest cover corner...

Benching Adams is the Only Way Steelers Will Know if He is Part of the Future

I’ve watched more replays of the Steelers’ loss in Minnesota than I really care to admit. Apparently I’m a glutton for punishment and like carnage because I can’t look away. While the missed tackles and blown assignments are one thing, I just can’t stop watching Mike Adams attempt to block Jared Allen. Allen is and has been an excellent pass rusher in this league for a...

Art Rooney II Thinks Good Things Will Come If Hard Work Continues

Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II issued a short statement Tuesday to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette following the team's 0-4 start. In a football season you can't worry about your last game, or your last four games. The team has to focus on the next opponent and do what is necessary to improve each week of the season. If we continue to work hard and play with...

Mike Tomlin Needs To Become A Geology Expert During The Bye Week

Following the loss to the Chicago Bears, head coach Mike Tomlin said that he would turn over stones in an effort to fix the tackle situation. Judging by the play of left tackle Mike Adams Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, he better become a geology expert during the bye week. Through the first four games of the 2013 season, Adams has shown to be one of, if not the worst left...

Tomlin Liked Bell’s Effort Sunday From a Conditioning Standpoint

At 0-4 the Pittsburgh Steelers don't have much to be excited about, but at least rookie running back Le'Veon Bell had a positive showing in his NFL debut in the Sunday loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Bell, who had been sidelined since the second preseason game with a sprained foot, started the game in London and contributed 84 total yards of offense on 16 carries and four...

Can Markus Wheaton Be Used More Effectively?

Markus Wheaton, the speedster from Oregon State, was brought in (more or less) to replace the speed lost by Mike Wallace. But Markus has only been on the field for 20 snaps this year. This report from Curt Popejoy over at Bleacher Report is a nice little cocktail of X's and O's and commentary on the matter. While everyone from Mike Tomlin to us has said this is no...

Rams Release Max Starks

The longest bye week in Steelers history is upon us, and the questions and blame are being tossed around from all sides. And while the team maintains a winning attitude, we can't help but worry about that offensive line, easily the most glaring flaw on this team. Well today something interesting went down that could affect the Steelers. Former Steeler tackle Max Starks...

A Perfect Time For A Break

By Matthew Marczi Is it just me, or is it just about time for us all to take a break from this nightmarish beginning of the 2013 season? The Bye week could hardly have come at a more opportune time for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they find themselves reeling after coming off their fourth consecutive loss in as many games to begin the year. Not in the sense that it will be enough to...

Rams Release Former Steelers T Max Starks

We shall see just how bad the Pittsburgh Steelers view their tackle situation over the course of the next few days as the St. Louis Rams announced Tuesday the release of tackle Max Starks. Starks signed with the Rams less than two weeks ago and he played all of eight snaps for them in two games. Starks signed with the San Diego Chargers during the offseason, but was released prior...

Ben Roethlisberger: You can call us worst team in the league

Ben Roethlisberger provided a harsh assessment of his Pittsburgh Steelers following the team’s 34-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday. The Steelers quarterback, who went 36-of-51 for 383 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the loss, said after the game that it would be fair to call the 0-4 squad the […]

Steelers Vikings Injury Report

Each week now the Steelers get healthier. Their most important injury is Maurkice Pouncey super-fortunate knee tear, which puts him on the shelf forever (might as well be). The rest of the team though gets healthier as each week passes, a trend started with the return of Heath Miller last week against the Bears and continues with the return of Cortez Allen and Le'Veon Bell. ...

I Have Some Questions for Coach Tomlin

Hey, Coach Tomlin! I like you man. I really, really do but I have to ask you something. Why are you getting pissed off now? The fire you showed in the post-game comments was the fire we should have seen after week one. Instead, you waited for the fourth consecutive loss to blow your top? Did you not notice the problems and urgency that was needed after the loss to Tennessee? We sure...

‘Man’ Up, Steelers

The Real Reason Pittsburgh Won’t Win Over Britain Despite the seemingly packed stadium in London Sunday, this year’s NFL exhibition probably didn’t win Pittsburgh many fans. This is sad from my point of view, as I am both a lifelong Steelers fan and a one-time U.K. resident. But, fact is, the Steelers just don’t look that impressive from a British standpoint. And this isn’t...
