GRAPEVINE, Texas The Dallas Cowboys signed interior offensive lineman Phil Costa to a two-year contract extension in March, reassuring that he was part of the team's future.
However, where Costa will be playing along the offensive line is still to be determined. The Cowboys used their first-round draft pick on center Travis Frederick last month. Costa had been the team's first-team center, starting three games last season and all 16 games in 2011.
"I came in the league and every day was a fight and still every day is a fight, so I look at it as just competition," Costa said Wednesday. "I think competition really brings out the best in everyone, which coach has talked a lot about with our team. There's going to be that. It's good. It really brings out the best."
Costa, 25, does have experience playing guard, something he did during his sophomore and junior seasons at Maryland. Would that be an option for him with the Cowboys?
