The San Francisco 49ers surprised everyone earlier in the week when they signed Randy Moss to a contract to play wide receiver. They now seem to have an even bigger surprise for the league.

Reports from Adam Schefter have the 9ers as the third team, along with the Titans and Broncos, fighting for the services of Peyton Manning. The Dolphins were told no, and it seems that the Cardinals have been told the same.

Is it possible that the best QB of this generation, and the best WR of the last 14-years could be hooking up? We already know that Manning had a great hook up at TE in Indy with Dallas Clark, but now he would have the services of Vernon Davis.

The 49ers watched Peyton workout on Tuesday night at Duke University, and were very impressed.

Keep in mind that QB Alex Smith has yet to be re-signed by the team.
