It doesn't get much worse than that. In the biggest game of the season, the Cowboys choked it away, falling to the New York Giants, 37-34, on Sunday night. Here are my thoughts: 1.) This one will sting for a long time. It was such a bad loss that Jerry Jones didn't even take questions after the game. He made about a 30-second statement and walked off. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was so angered that he didn't stop to answer any questions, either. The Cowboys blew a game they had no business losing and Tony Romo had nothing to do with the collapse. Somehow, with the division lead on the line, Dallas watched a double-digit lead evaporate along with quite possibly its chance at the playoffs. This loss might be one they don't overcome for a long time. And losing rookie runner DeMarco Murray for the season to a broken ankle certainly makes worse. 2.) DeMarcus Ware picked a terrible day to have arguably his worst game of the season. One of the NFL's top pass rushers only heard his name called when he committed penalties on Sunday. In a game the front seven desperately needed to sack Manning, it never did. And that starts with Ware. If you hadn't watched Ware before Sunday you would have never believed that he has 15 sacks this season. 3.) The calendar says December but Romo played Sunday night like it was still November. It's hard to find a bright spot in this debacle, but the quarterback was impressive the entire way, even when his offensive line was allowing pressure. For most of the way, the contest looked like it was going to be a gunfight and Romo clearly was up for the challenge. 4.) There doesn't need to be any debate, no matter where the Cowboys select in next year's NFL Draft, they must select a corner or safety. Right now, the team has serviceable players at those positions, they certainly don't have the playmakers needed to make this unit one of the best in the league. Dre Kirkpatrick, Janoris Jenkins, Alfonzo Dennard, Mark Barron, I hope you guys don't mind playing with a star on your helmet. 5.) Laurent Robinson, start looking for a house in the area. As long as Romo is on this team, you will be as well. The Cowboys' top receiver had another impressive outing, catching four balls for 137 yards and a TD. The impressive season just won't end for the 26-year-old who has eight touchdowns in the last seven games. -- Follow Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota
