Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent was arrested Saturday morning for intoxication manslaughter after he wrecked his car and killed teamate Jerry Brown, reports ESPN.
According to Irving police and ESPN's report:
Brent's car was traveling at a high rate of speed on a State Highway 114 service road before he hit the outside curb. The car flipped at least one time before coming to a rest in the middle of the service road.
When police arrived Brent was responsive and spoke to police officers. Brown was unresponsive and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Brent, a three-year veteran, was booked in the Irving city jail at 4:14 a.m. Saturday morning.
Brown, who was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad, was Brent's college teammate at Illinois.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. "At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry's family and all of those who knew him and loved him."
Brent had been the Cowboys starting nose tackle with Jay Ratliff sidelined with a groin injury.
The Cowboys have promoted Rob Callaway off the practice squad to start at nose tackle for the Cowboys game against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.
