Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned in an online video that he has high hopes for HC Jason Garrett not only next season, but in the “years to come” as well.
“I saw things in our head coach that really give me a lot of promise for not only 2013 but for years to come,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I’m excited about Jason Garrett.”
Jones also mentioned that Garrett was the one who made the changes to the coaching staff this year.
“He did the evaluations,” Jones said. “He basically said, ‘Jerry here’s who I want to get.”
I know Jones is trying to show support for Garrett given that there’s a growing segment that wants to see him replaced, but it’s hard to imagine him telling Jones that he wants to replace his brother or strip himself of play-calling duties. Jones is the most hands-on of any NFL owner, which makes it unimaginable that Garrett walked into his office and dictated who was going to be brought in.
