Jason Garrett Cowboys owner Jerry Jones mentioned in an online video that he has high hopes for HC Jason Garrett not only next season, but in the “years to come” as well. “I saw things in our head coach that really give me a lot of promise for not only 2013 but for years to come,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I’m excited about Jason Garrett.” Jones also mentioned that Garrett was the one who made the changes to the coaching staff this year. “He did the evaluations,” Jones said. “He basically said, ‘Jerry here’s who I want to get.” I know Jones is trying to show support for Garrett given that there’s a growing segment that wants to see him replaced, but it’s hard to imagine him telling Jones that he wants to replace his brother or strip himself of play-calling duties. Jones is the most hands-on of any NFL owner, which makes it unimaginable that Garrett walked into his office and dictated who was going to be brought in. Mike Jenkins Bryan Broaddus was asked whether he thought there was a chance that CB Mike Jenkins could be brought back for another season. Broaddus responded by saying that Jenkins is likely ”gone.” Jenkins, 27, has no chance of seeing his playing time increase next season if he were to return to Dallas unless Brandon Carr or Morris Claiborne suffered an injury. On top of that, the Cowboys have very little cap space to work with, so it’s highly unlikely that they would use it to keep Jenkins. It’s hard to say what kind of market there will be for him come March, especially when you consider that there are a number of serviceable cornerbacks available this year. Felix Jones Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com writes that RB Felix Jones is not expected to back with the Cowboys either. Jones, 25, didn’t have a defined role with the team last year and Eatman believes he’ll likely catch on as a No. 2 back for someone next season. He’s a decent option as a third-down running back, but there are obvious concerns relating to his injury history. It will be interesting to see if any NFL team is willing to offer him more than a one-year deal. The Cowboys are expected to move forward with Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar as DeMarco Murray‘s backups next season.
